Oka good afternoon to whoever reads this I have a 2006 mac book that was given to me to work on (I am a seasoned pc technician ) and a clueless mac user anyway the hdd seemed to be damaged b/c of a loud crackling sound and would not boot question mark issue so I tried to repair with mac os x leopard cd from a friend that has a mac pro cuz I do not have the original cd the disk utility reads it and erases it but says cannot install this software on this computer tried repairing no repair necessary so I dont see why it does not install can anyone enlighten me on this much appreciated.:D:confused:

Check to see if the computer is still under applecare. If they purchased applecare, the contract will probably be expiring soon. There are a couple of ways to check if it is still covered.

One:
Go to apple.com/support. In the "search support" box at the top left of the page, enter the serial number. (Available under "About This Mac" -> more Info.) After entering the serial number, it will bring you to the product page. In the right column, second box down, there will be a table labeled "AppleCare". Click on "Check your warranty status". And from there you should be able to find out if they have it or not.

Two:
You can login into AppleCare agreements here (http://www.apple.com/support/applecare/overview/).

It sounds like the hard drive is shot. If you are feeling adventurous, go to newegg.com and purchase a new drive and install it yourself.

The install DVDs that come with all Macs are computer specific. You would need to purchase a retail copy of OS X to be able to install on the MacBook.

Thanks for the info I guess its cuz its computer specific cuz I forgot to mention I went to the tiger direct in mall of the americas (I study There TCI computer networking tech) and they sold me a hdd Hitachi that works for apples and still the same issue (sorry for not mentioning) Its probably the computer specific issue ;)
Im going out to buy one now when I get it anybody know whats the basic steps in installing it (the easiest way)
