Help with MacbookAir Speakers!!!!

ok im new at this .. i just got a new MacbookAir
but is it me ...or is it the way it is ... the macbook air speaker seems to be playing from the right side only ? i know its a monospeaker but if you go to system preferences under sound is the "BALANCE" part adjustable from right to left?......because thats not showing up with me ONLY when i put headphones in .. is that right? is there anything wrong with my MacBookAir?
