Help with Maverick VPN

Trying to setup the VPN client in Mav to connect to our Cisco 501E Firewall.
Getting error "The VPN server did not respond. Verify the server address and try reconnecting".

I am trying to connect via IP, we had PCs that were connecting fine via the Cisco client, but now we are switching a few staff to MACs. I copied everything exactly as we had in the PCs.

Did you use the current Cisco software? Look here for updated OS X versions.

No I am trying to use the built in VPN in Maverick.

Cisco VPN

Strange as it may seem, I sometimes have to change my IP address a few times and then the VPN works for weeks. Then all of a sudden it stops and I have to try a few new IP addresses to get it working again. it is weird but it works.
