Not at all a mac person trying to fix my daughters before school starts. Hope in advance some can help searched and no simple fix for a non tech person.

Have a early 2011. At first it froze at the apple logo with the beach ball, able to get in utilities. Someone suggested it needed a new hard drive. Bought a WD 500g HD, then it would only go to a suitcase with a question mark, was told just to put in the snow leopard disc, just got the 3 constant beeps, was told it was ram, put in two new sticks of ram, still 3 beeps while the disc is in when its out it goes back to the question mark. put back in the old HD and can go to utilities but with the disc with the old HD still the 3 beeps. Now was told it was the logic board all along. Any ideas?

She can't fix it herself????

Try reseating the RAM, in small laptops inserting RAM feels like you will break the module in half just push it in, they are stronger than they look, be absolutely sure that the RAM is seated properly, post close up pics of the seating for both chips. Test the RAM in another laptop to see if it is RAM or motherboard.

run apples hardware test

if you didn't manage to install snow leopard on the HDD there is something else going on
