I've been reading through the forums and I haven't found a thread that deals with the problem I'm having. If I missed it, please point me in the right direction.

I have two main devices on my network, my iMac and my ATV2. Recently, I've been having a problem when trying to use both at the same time. If I am streaming netflix and then start browsing the internet on my iMac one of three things happens. 1) Netflix will lose sound. It will continue to play the video but without sound. 2) Netflix will simply crash out of the video and go back to the menu. 3) My iMac, no matter what browser I am using, will struggle to load a webpage.

Now, I live in central Washington and I have access to fiber internet. Over wireless N (my iMac accesses wirelessly while my ATV is hardwired) I get speeds of 65mbs up and 65mbs down. Hard wired that number is closer to 80mbs. So I find it hard to believe that somehow it is my bandwidth. But, for whatever reason, this problem persists.

I'm not a networking expert so there may be something going on with my router, but for the past two years I have never had this problem. It has only started within the past month.

    Any ideas?

    sounds like an interference problem.

what kind of wireless N, 2.4GHz or 5GHz?

when it starts to slow down, alt-click on the wi-fi icon in your menu bar, what does the transmit rate say?

have you added any new electronics? especially things that transmit like cordless phones or baby monitors.
try turning the new things off.

do you live in an apartment, or somewhere with neighbors that are really close? have you seen any new wireless networks pop up, that you didn't use to see?
    try changing the wireless channel
