I've got a Mac Pro 5,1 running 144.0.7.3.1 bootrom and Mojave. I'm trying to run open core legacy patcher 2.4.1 to install a newer non supported Mac OS. I also have a RX560 (Mac flashed & metal supported) videocard installed.

I am not sure why I am having this problem and have tried everything I can. I've installed OCLP to a freshly formatted SATA HDD then I rebooted the system to boot off this HDD. The Apple boot picker appears as my post picture. I then select the OCLP EFI option, the screen goes blank for 2 seconds (no text appears at all even though I've ticked the Verbose option in OCLP settings). Then after 2 seconds, the Apple boot picker reappears. For some reason the OCLP patching is not running. I am pulling my hair out with this issue.

🙏 Brain trust please help

Boot rom 144.0.0.0.0 is latest.

What unsupported version of macOS?

Disconnect all other SATA drives and try again.

When you installed OCLP to the SATA drive, I assume you adjusted the settings in advance? Make sure the model is set to a MP 5,1 and the OpenCore boot picker checked to activate?

On rare occasions, I've had to do an SMC reset to get OCLP booting properly.

Help please, thanks.
I have two containers ( APFS), one is High Sierra, and Sequoia. 5,1, with the RX580, which was working great on High sierra.

Freshly installed, both MacOS's. I can't boot into High Sierra, gives me a a circle with a line through it.

I suspect because under High Sierra under working under firmware 144., and now with OCLP it changed to firmware 9999.999.999.999.999 ?

what's the best move at this point, to perhaps revert patches, and completely remove all data, and start over and make sure this time I keep OCLP on a USB stick, and don't install on the drive?

Thank you all through the years.

If you intend to dual boot, best to use two separate drives.
Thanks Bigwaff.

I have a separate drive already with High Sierra on it, and remove the drive with Sequoia and High Sierra on it, and only the drive with High Sierra, and still gives me the same error with the circle with the dash through it.

I thought maybe it was because I have the RX580 in the computer was the issue, but when I had installed High Sierra with the RX580, it was rocking good. It's only when I created another container, and installed Sequoia with OCLP i couldn't boot back into High Sierra.

So even a drive with only High Sierra solely won't boot.

You think if I reinstall High Sierra again with (only) on the drive itself again, knowing it has firmware 9999.999.999.999.999 will recognize it?

Thanks again.

Firmware 9999.....999 is OpenCore spoofing. If you boot from a drive w/ High Sierra.. and only High Sierra installed on it from scratch, you would see your real firmware 144.0.0.0.0. Shut down MP and boot while holding down Option key. You should see the macOS Boot Picker w/ only one option - High Sierra drive. If you see OC EFI, you have OC EFI installed on your High Sierra drive. Remove it.

I agree with Bigwaff; option-boot directly into High Sierra. Then I'd open the OCLP app and check settings. The proper settings for Sequoia will also work with everything down to High Sierra (and Snow Loepard, but not the macOS versions in between). note: Snow Leopard may also need GOP injection in the Advanced tab, which HS and higher does not need.

OCLP's default settings for High Sierra will work except for the Security settings. Sequoia needs a bit more overridden than HS.

- Kernel Security -
[x] Disable Library Validation
[x] Disable AMFI
- System Integrity Protection -
[x] Allow_Untrusted_Kexts
[x] Allow_Unrestricted_FS
[x] Allow_Unauthenticated_Root

These are the OCLP security settings for my Sequoia install. Like I said, High Sierra and up will be happy with them.

So I'd reinstall OCLP to EFI using the fresh settings. Reboot. Then reinstall later macOS versions as needed to get them working. And if all else fails, an SMC reset can be your friend.

btw - Mojave is somewhat better for diagnosing than High Sierra. If later macOS versions are mounted at the time HS is booted, HS may muck around with their boot icons. This doesn't break booting on my system, but I've heard it causes trouble for some people. Mojave fixed this annoyance.

I can't thank you both immensely enough.

In another post, I described the trouble I had trying to install Sequoia on the same drive High Sierra was on creating another container, and I tried many times holding down the option key, and the usual boot sequence, the Cd tray opens while holding down the option key and it would hang up, and the CD tray would never close, or show the boot picker.

I would to start from scratch again.

What would be the best approach? I never injected the GOP. Maybe that's where my problem starts.

I greatly appreciate the time you spend helping others.
