help with password function

I have a mac laptop (running snow leopard)and when I open apps with passwords, like my mail the username comes up and so does the password. I don't know what setting allows this, but i would like to set my new iMAC (with Lion)the same way. Anyone know how to do this?

don't add it to your mac keychain and it should prompt you every time
