help with picking out headphones

Im looking for over the ear headphones mostly to connect to my imac and stereo but iphone compatibility is a plus.

I think around 300$ is the max.

Can anyone here recommend a good pair/good deal?

I have tried beats by dr dre and bowers & wilkins p5

You can but the Beats Solo iPhone cord separately by emailing Monster. You could then always find a set of headphones that you can audition and that you like and use the Beats cable - as long as the phones have a detachable cord.

Otherwise you might be stuck with the Monster, B&W or Bose for the mic function being built in (not aware of any other half decent makes that have the mic built in).
