Hi!

Im looking for a portable harddrive for my mac and windows.

Ive found this one here: http://m.bhphotovideo.com/mobile/detail?R=846319_REG&title=1+TB+Touro+Mobile+MX3+USB+3.0+External+Hard+Disk+Drive+(Black)

But im not sure, hitachi is a weird brand.

I was wondering how they formatted their drive in order to use with both windows and mac.

Then I could get a reliable WD drive and format it the right way

Plug the drive into your Mac, start Disk Utility (in your Utility folder), and format it with two partitions, one HFS+ journaled for the Mac, one NTFS for Windows.

the thing is I want to use the same files for both systems. Also Im pretty sure the solution of the hitachi touro isn't that one.

They claim the drive works for both OS without reformatting.

The thing with that claim is that it does "work" for both OSes without reformatting, but the formatting restricts read/write privileges based on the format. HFS+ is readable on Windows but as far as I know not writable. I would advise using bootcamp and file formats that are recognized by both OSes to avoid really needing two partitions(or simply run Windows in a VM and share your home folder with the VM.
