but I want to do a completely fresh install, remove everything from my hd then reinstall OSX and apps.

1. is this safe?

2. can somebody walk me through the steps, I know i have to insert the dvd but where do i go from there if i want to do a clean install.

I accidentally my whole location.
1. Yes. Back up your important stuff if you have any like the previous poster said.

2. Its mostly self explanatory. Once you get to the screen where it shows the hard drive(s) you want to install OS X on, click on a button that says "Options" or "Customise" (forget which). Choose Erase and install and you're all set.

3. Afterwards. They will be on your restore discs.

What's the motivation in reinstalling OS X in the first place?
