Help with Safari and Yahoo

I updated my 15' Mac Book Pro via the auto update several months ago and it says running Safari version 3.1.1

Upon doing so every time I type in a URL or click on a link a small (continue) type box appears in the top left hand conner and it skips randomly to other websites than the one intended. This always used to happen with my PC it seemed when getting spam and such but never on the MAC until now...

Any suggestions why this is happening and how do I get it to stop
