I've noticed the last few days that when i goto the Guardian UK website www.guardian.co.uk it starts to load one video - everytime. If i open the same page in Firefox or Google Chrome this doesnt happen....

I have uninstalled Flash a few days go so i don't know if its related to that but below you can see the two diiferent web pages. Wish id never installed flash from the day i brought my mac and used google chrome exclusively for flash sites.

The Jodi Kantor on her book The Obamas: A Mission, A Marriage - video interview can be seen in safari but only the headline in Firefox.

Anyone help me to work out whats happening and how to fix it from not downloading?

Thanks.

I reinstalled Flash and it seems to have stopped happening - so far.... (damn flash!)

Going move plugins out of plugin folder as per Fireball/Gruber, like i did before, and leave them there, and not officially uninstall Flash like i did before. Hopefully i wont get problem again.

Anybody know how to get rid of Flash without breaking Safari?

If I go to this page in either Safari or Chrome the video auto plays after the page opens.

I have Flash completely uninstalled on my machine and use the Gruber recommended method you mentioned.

With or without flash installed it is normal for Guardian website to autoplay the video if you click through to the page link, but on the main homepage no video should auto load/run.

What i know is that i did the "Gruber method" - moving plugins to "disabled" folder - then a few days later i decided to use the Adobe Flash Uninstaller to remove it 'properly' - but - i did this without moving plugins back to original folder. And then this is when this abnormal behaviour started happening on Guardian homepage.

Since reinstalling flash (under 1 hour ago), with official flash installer, Safari on the guardian homepage works as its suppose to again ie, it does not autoload/play that or any other video.

Opening the guardian homepage on either chrome or firefox does not - with or without flash - does not start loading that video - so i assume my non clean way of uninstalling flash 'broke' safari in some way to cause this behaviour.

Im going to move the plugins to a disabled folder later once im happy this safari glitch is fixed (looks like it), and leave it like that.

I don't know the true cause, it could be a combination of flash, ad blocker plus (was tweaking this) or click to flash all gitching in some way... or something else...

My MBA & Lion have worked pretty flawlessly since i brought my MBA 5 months ago so i don't relly want to mess any more than necessary. Only acouple of days ago the thought 'my computer setup is perfect' crossed my mind.... And then this glitch conventiently popped up :-(
