Hi all,

Prior to purchasing my S7 I sold my SE on eBay. I've just received a message from the buyer saying they can't connect the watch as it's already linked to another device. I specifically remember erasing the watch and removing activation lock before send it so I'm not sure why it's doing this. I've been on the watch app on my phone, the watch isn't on my devices any more and I've been on Find my on iCloud.com and it's not listed under my devices either. any idea on what I can do? I plan on contacting apple support but waiting to hear back from the buyer as I no longer have the serial number.

Thanks!

As long as you don’t see it under your Apple account (for example on the iPhone in Settings or on your Mac in the Settings) and in Find My, you have done what you could.

Ask them to send you a screenshot of the error screen. Activation lock shows the email address so check it to see if it's yours. Also, if you can find the receipt in your Apple Store account, it should list the SN, which you should cross check. It may be a scam.

Hope you have a record of the Watch's serial number. I always note the serial number of any Apple device I've sold on eBay. That way IF someone claims it's broken or they try to send it back I can make sure they are sending me MY old device back and not some other junk.

Thankfully I've never had any issues, but I always do it to cover my butt.

This seems to happen every now and then. Try this:

Go to www.iCloud.com in Safari on a Mac or iPad.

1. Tap “Find iPhone”

2. Tap All Devices at the top in the middle

3. Scroll down to the watch and tap it.

4. Tap the little X to the right to remove from account. Or select “Remove From Account” if there is no X and you get another screen.

They kind of sounds like a scam but then again, it may be something that hasn’t been fully removed on Apple’s end.

For future sales, I would suggest making a video of you unpairing and removing the device from your account and also note the serial number.

FYI, ”erasing the watch” doesn’t remove it from your iCloud account. So how did you remove the activation lock?
