Help with updating 3GS to iOS4

I have a friend who is having trouble updating their 3GS to iOS4 because they can't download/install iTunes 9.2 onto his PC for some reason.

Can he plug his 3GS into my laptop and just download it off mine as I did mine two weeks ago and had no problems.

You should be able to. Not 100% though.

Since his phone is synced with another library, it should ask you to erase and sync when plugged in to your computer. Select cancel and just update the OS. Now if he syncs his phone to his own computer after that, I am not sure that the OS will remain. But I could be wrong.
