Office 2008. Word fails to save preferences or to create a "normal" template. When I quit, I get this message:

"A file error has occurred. Check your network connections or make sure the disk is properly inserted and not defective. (Normal.dotm)"

There is no disk inserted and no network.

I have tried twice removing all of Office 2008, including prefs and library items, and then reinstalling. Doesn't make any difference.

It's the Standard Office 2008.
And I'm a iMac 2.8 GHz, using Leopard 10.5.1.

I had a similar error with Office 2008, it would tell me that "Normal" is mission or corrupt. I would press enter and Word would try to restart itself and would continue to constantly restart itself, until I would have to Force Quit Microsoft Word.

I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 at this time, I'm not sure about your problem but try removing everything. All preference files and associate files from your Mac and try a reinstall.

If you look at the Apple Discussion board at Apple.com a lot of people are reporting having problems with Microsoft Office 2008 and Leopard.
