Absolutely not. Until keyboard and mice come as USB-C we need to keep some USB-A ports. It’s the one thing I hate about Mac laptops when I want to use my USB mouse.
It's the rear side of the computer - if you need USB-A, it's reasonable to have an adapter there IMO.

I have the same machine. 2017 MBP. ;-)

Yeah, I need raytracing so Thats why I'm waiting for the studio to get it. Meanwhile I use partner's computer. ;-)

I know, I dont get people who complain that the iphone 15 is not much different than iphone 14.....why are you already looking to upgrade your iPhone 14? The iphone 15 is not for you, its for people like me who upgraded from an iphone X. You think I cared that it was only incrementally better than the 14? All I knew is it was MUCH better than my X. And I may be buying an M3 Air this summer and I won't care that it's only slightly better than M2 Air, because I am upgrading from a 2017 Intel MBPro.

I hope we see an M4 MBP 16" with Thunderbolt 5 this fall. That'd trigger an upgrade for me (especially if they dump the SD and HDMI ports and add a fourth TB port.

Mac Studio, Mac Pro

Then never mentions Mac Pro again so I’m assuming that’s not even a rumor, just an assumption.

The only assumption I’m making about the Mac Pro is that Apple wants to get rid of it.

I would like to see them actually do something with that giant case and heat dissipation capacity but they just don’t seem to want to.

They didn't say that. They said that there won't be 27" iMac. They didn't rule out bigger sizes

I mean Apple said in 2023 that there is not going to be a larger iMac. Not sure what y’all are expecting anymore from Apple.

Been waiting for M3 to replace my Intel MBA. Just wished they’d bring the 11” or 12” form factor back, those were so portable!

This, this, and this. Will definitely be buying the M3 MBA to replace my Intel 12" Macbook (which I haven't actually used in years but love too much to discard), but would LOSE MY JUNK over a 12" M3 Macbook. The 12" MB is almost volumetrically identical to its 11" MBA predecessor. The 13" M2 MBA honestly isn't *too* much bigger than the 12" MB but ... a new 12" MB would be sooo awesome.

If you need a laptop now, then I'd look for a sale or the refurb store.

If you needed to fully load the CPU, you'd be getting a MBP with a Pro/Max. The M2 in a MBAir will take care of you for years and years.
I'd get a MBP but cannot use the screens. MBA looks to be the only safe version for my eye sensitivity.

There isn’t going to be an M4 in 2024.
If that’s true, then makes sense.

On the other hand, it’s weird having gpu ray tracing on the iPhone and not on the mac pro or mac studio, I don’t know why apple didn’t hold them for a couple of months and skip M2.

The M3 Ultra is gonna be insane. I have the M3 Max and the performance is outrageous, nearly as high as the M2 Ultra. Doubling that, even if not a real-world doubling of performance, is still going to be wild. Especially in a desktop form factor with a fat copper heat sink and fans. I have no need for an M3 Ultra, and honestly don't currently have a need for an M3 Max aside from the extra memory and future proofing since this is now my computer for the rest of this decade. Yet I'm still excited to see what they do with the new chip.

I wish the Ultra would get a Thunderbolt 5 controller for the Mac Studio to support high refresh, high res displays and that Aplle will announce such a display simultaneously. But more realistically, this will only happen with the M4 generation in 2025.

I‘d love to buy the M3 Studio but also want to be future proof for any coming display refreshes. So M3 or wait for M4 is the question for me…
The Mac Studio with only the M2 Max can support up to four 6K 32-inch Pro Display XDRs according to this Apple Support article, while the Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra can support up to six 6K 32-inch Pro Display XDRs.

Are you saying you need more than that?

I only want to connect a single display. But one that has 5k, 6k or even higher resolution and supports high refresh rate >60Hz. This is not supported by Thunderbolt 4 and requires Thunderbolt 5.

I find that to be an interesting use-case scenario, but I am having trouble finding the max single-display capabilities of Thunderbolt 5 online.

The Macintosh saw better days stewarded by Apple Computer, Inc. than Apple Inc. New chips are faster than old ones, a perennial phenomenon that changes nothing for most of their customers.

Apple has gone from serving their customers to their customers serving them with prices far higher than they used to be. Apple won’t even give MacBook customers right side I/O for less than $2000!

And those keyboards they sell these days, if you can even call them “keyboards,” are so shallow with little to no key travel!

Apple sells flash rather than substance these days, and for a far prettier penny.
