So, Siri is as intelligent as a human when listening to your requests on a phone call. As noted by other forum posters, it would be more precise to articulate, "find the average of 19, (AND) 17, and 15," or you could opt to type to Siri if you do a lot of calculations like that in natural language.

Also, did you enable any of the Siri accessibility options? Specifically, the setting that adjusts the pause time? It could be why Siri thinks you need extra time between words.

My comments here are not meant to deny or dismiss your feelings about Siri being awful; I’m simply offering a few suggestions.
I tried variable length pauses when testing this. It still just doesn't understand how to parse, let alone tone and context, like at all.

Again, typing the info into a Siri text box negates the need for Siri, I'd rather use Calculator or just a simple Google search because then at least I can copy/paste the answer.

Siri is barely better than it was in 2015 at understanding and parsing your verbal queries.

Okay. This has gone on way too long. The answer is 17, and I didn’t even need AI to tell me that.
(Can someone peer check my math please?)🙏

I wish there was a fix for the poor battery life on my iPhone 16 Pro Max.

In the uk do we get AirPods hearing aid support they said it’s coming in the coming weeks

The Apple Intelligence rollout (and hilariously, rollback) is truly a software blunder for the ages. $3.5T company can't ship the features nobody wanted anyways. Scott Forstall was fired for less! I would enjoy reading an insider story on the whole development of AI at Apple. You can just feel how at-odds the whole thing is with the company's and products' strengths.
I’m glad that I see more and more people mentioning Scott Forstall these days. Maybe people didn’t forget how much better and nicer OS X and iOS used to be.

We’re the same in Australia. We had it approved on 23 Dec '24 and awaiting an upgrade.

The UK Telegraph had a story on 16 Jan ‘25 that it will be available after an update as it has now been approved.

Read it on a News+ page.

No thanks.

I don’t quite see Apple Intelligence as a debacle. Some features are beta. A couple issues were not great. Overall it’s progressing alright. I’d rather Apple get the privacy issues right the first time rather than have that be an afterthought or a later patch.

You can’t say that nobody wants it. I want it and like it. What it can do now and the possibilities for the near future have excited. To complain about something you don’t like is fine, but don’t include others without checking to see what they want first. Let’s keep the opinions true by saying you and not include everyone.
I’ve actually enjoyed having Writing Tools though I actually don’t frequently use it. And even when I do use it, I don’t typically copy wholesale what it says but rather write my own version.

I’ve liked using Clean Up.

The integration with ChatGPT with privacy in mind seems great. I never want any site to track me.

I don’t have much experience with other AI and voice assistants but I keep reading that those other platforms may have more “advanced” features because they aren’t progressing with user confidently and privacy in mind.

I want Apple to always keep privacy and confidentiality in mind as their technology changes. No compromise there. The internet is already a place rife with data breaches etc.

No thanks.

Same here. I hate the skeuomorphic approach. No thanks. Lived through that. It’s close to reminding me of Microsoft Bob, a stupid GUI interface supposed to help you pretend you’re navigating your computer as if it were home. IT IS NOT A HOME. IT IS NOT A HOUSE. BYE BYE BOB!!

lol 🤣

Yeah.. that’s beautiful and was fun to use. I also loved the little detsils everywhere like when you deleted a note or a picture and the trash can opened and it sucked it into the trash can, etc.. it was fun and so smooth. Now we have no design and only text with black or white background everywhere. Since iOS 7 apps have no identity.

hope this fixes notification badges on email clients, I don't get any badges on mail or outlook unless I reboot the phone

If only Apple intelligence could fix the bug that consumes the battery rapidly… the last major releases have battery issues until the x.5 release.. their testing methodology needs to be revamped… why get a new phone if you are stuck with flakey software?

Most hardware calculators I have ever used, have done the exact same thing when double pressing the equals button. Sorry that Apple were consistent with legacy calculators when Gen Z's don’t want it.
Precisely. I was enjoying this “feature”. Turns out to be a “bug”. Hope they don’t fix it🤨

Nah. It’s different. Do you want me to explain why, or do you have a closed mind on it?
I mean… I’m not a part of this, but I do.

For me… Siri, Alexa, Google… they’re all the same. They turn on or off the lights. They are kitchen timers. Everything else is a Google or Wiki search that I’d prefer to read at my own pace.

I wish they would fix the unresponsive keyboard.
So many times I hit keys again and again and nothing happens.
The back key does this all the time when trying to hold it down to delete something long.
Very annoying.

Word on the street is that 18.3 will also install Apple Intelligence on applicable devices, whether the user wants it or not. Because, apparently, Apple knows it's users really want Image Playground, Genmoji, improvements to their writing skills, faulty notifications and whatever other new "Squirrel!" features it may bring.
You'll be able turn it off (supposedly) but not uninstall it, and regardless, it will eat up (a minimum of) 7GB of storage to do it - plus whatever that means ongoing to your iCloud storage.

Calculator used to give you a running subtotal after every entry. Now you have to push the equals button...Pain it the butt! All my physical calcultors display a running subtotal after each entry. Why did they make this change? Not just on 18.3, saw it on earlier versions of iOS 18.
