Apple provided developers and public beta testers with the release candidate versions of iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4, which means we're going to see a public launch as soon as next week. The RC versions of the software include Apple's official release notes, giving us final details on what's included in the update.

iOS 26.4 is likely to see a launch next Monday or Tuesday, ahead of when Apple begins accepting orders for the AirPods Max.

Completely pointless update. Who even asked for emojis? It’s sad to see how things are turning out.

It's concerning when I am looking forward to the latest patch in the hope that it will fix bugs and regressions.

But the new Apple Music features sound nice.

Accessibility
- Reduce bright effects setting minimizes bright flashes when tapping on elements like buttons
- Subtitle and caption settings are available from the captions icon while viewing media, making them easier to find, customize, and preview
- Reduce Motion setting more reliably reduces the animations of Liquid Glass for users sensitive to on screen motion
Now add point 4 in 26.5 "Turn Liquid Glass design off" and I'm ready to upgrade my devices to 26 + buy new products like AW SE3 or M5 Air.

It seems like the iPhone 18 is going to be available before the Siri updates we were supposed to get with the iPhone 16 release.

This is the worst flub I’ve seen from Apple in the post-Jobs-return period, with the butterfly keyboard and antenna-gate rounding out the top 3. Let’s hope they get it right with iOS 27.

I don’t mind waiting for something that works, but they were way ahead of the puck by selling the iPhone 16 series around functionality that cleeeaaarly did NOT exist.

How many more updates will 26 get? 26.5?? 26.6? Any ideas?
The schedule has been the same for the last several years.
X.0: September
X.1: late October or first week of November
X.2: second week of December
X.3: late January or early February
X.4: late March/early April
X.5: mid/late May
X.6: July
X.7: released on the same day in September as the new Y.0 version
X.8: released exactly one year later in September
Pretty much been the exact same release schedule since 2020.

So yes, 26.5 will likely begin Beta testing the first week of April and release in mid May, 26.6 will likely be tested throughout most of June and July before releasing at the end of that month, and 26.7 will likely be released on the exact same day as 27.0, with 26.8 following on the same day that 28.0 releases next year.

This could have been a 26.3.2 update and nothing more.
No, it couldn’t, as there are changes to the SDK and it’s a completely new build, while X.X.X updates are fundamentally the same build as their original X.X updates.
For example, macOS 26.3.2 is almost identical and is just a further along build than 26.3, that happens to add support for the MacBook Neo.
Meanwhile, 26.4 is a completely new build, not just a patch or update.

Everyone seems to be missing the point. There is a major new feature in this version of iOS, iPad, OS, macOS, etc.. That feature is “purchase sharing“. I have been waiting for this for literally years. Now my daughters can purchase their own apps and software and pay for it themselves without the charge accruing to me. No longer do I have to send them money requests for what they buy within our family account. They can use their own payment method. At least this is how it is supposed to work, from what I understand.

Eh? Either my fingers have got fatter recently or this change has had absolutely the reverse effect on my phone. I can't type for **** on my iPhone any more.

Since iOS 6 have never been able to type in an iPhone.

I had the same thought last year with typing, Ios keyboard just seems to be getting worse and worse, as does the autocorrect options. Tried all the “resets” and nothing makes it better. Funnily i found my old Ipod touch 4th gen running ios 6, still works a treat, thought this will be funny to compare. Started typing fast on it and a long paragraph, perfect, zero errors or lag. I don’t understand how it goes backwards.

On a whim I asked my homepod mini to play a playlist on my iphone. It asked me which playlist and actually started playing it. I’ve been trying to do this for years now, either incorrectly or this is new. So very happy!

Are you Subscribed to Apple Music?

RIP new Siri.
There is no such thing as Santa Claus, no such thing as the Easter bunny, and there is also no such thing as new Siri. With as much money as Apple has, if there was ever going to be such a thing, it would’ve been done by now. Make your peace with Siri as she is right now..

Dear Apple, thank you for the ability to mark reminders as urgent and place the item on the calendar. Now I have alarms for calendar events. You have made my 1.5 decade (since 2010 I needed this). My new go-to for most calendar events that the single ding just doesn’t alert me to (on my watch either!). Thank you thank you thank you.
I appreciate this as well.

A lot of people are chiming in elsewhere to say this keyboard "fix" doesn't do sh**.
I suspect the poor keyboard operation that people complain about is linked to predictive text. I’ve had that turned off since it was first introduced, and I’ve never had a problem with the keyboard that wasn’t directly attributable to my fat fingers. Others have seen improvements when turning it off.

Completely pointless update. Who even asked for emojis? It’s sad to see how things are turning out.
So Apple should just ignore new emoji that the Unicode Consortium introduce?

I thought there was going to be a CarPlay update to allow video playback, when in park?

Don't hold your breath for this one. I can't remember if this is already supposed to be supported or not, but they did clarify that it takes an update from the auto maker to enable the feature at all, and then your car must receive that firmware update, plus it has to be enabled by each app's developer. Good luck with that.
