Just got my iPhone X and also got this......

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074CN96GL/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It’s not bad but way too thick. Any others I should be looking at? About my only two requirements are that it’s clear and that there is a slight lip around the front so if I set it facedown, the screen will be slightly raised. I’m not a dropper so I don’t really need full protection other than scratches.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Search for Pitaka on Amazon. It’s 0.03” thick and is made of a carbon fiber like material. It has embedded metal inserts for magnetic car mount. There’s a version of the mount that has a built in wireless charger.

I haven’t personally tried it, but the case has great reviews though quite pricey at $50.

This or bear motion cases, prefer them over Spigen thin cases any day of the week

You can use just the bumper. Put a glass screen protector on and buy the back protector film. It’s around $40 but totally worth it. Love mine to death

I had the Apple leather case on my X but I wanted to shed weight so I put a Totalee case on it. It is super light weight and has a thin leather covering on the back. Not clear but fits perfectly and reduces the weight and feels great. Good luck.

I have that ESR case (with the silver edge) and I like it quite a bit. It's easy to forget you have a case on. It has slightly more grip than the phone itself but, at first, I thought it wouldn't be grippy enough. Having used it for about a week now, I think the grip is sufficient. If you lay the phone down on it's back, the camera does not touch the surface. On the front it looks like the case just comes above the screen, but my glass screen protector appears to be above the level of the case. Like most thin cases, I'm not sure how well it protects from drops, but it should do fine protecting from scratches while adding a little grip.

If you're looking for grip, the softgrip case is really thin and has the same feeling of the OnePlus phones... this is one of my normal rotation cases

Thanks for all of the suggestions so far. I’m beginning to realize that what I’m looking for is more of a shell as opposed to a case. The problem is that I haven’t yet found a clear shell that extends over with a little lip to protect the screen. I’m actually surprised that nobody makes one. I’m not big on screensavers But I would like some kind of protection for setting it down on airport scanners and things like that.

I bought an ESR case from Amazon for my iPhone 8. Think it was around $11. Made from a softish silicone type material and quite thin. Slight lip on the front so you can lay it down without scratching the screen. Very grippy and comfortable to hold. I have lots of glass and granite surfaces in the house and it stays put well. The clear material shows off the (in my opinion) beautiful colors of the "silver" iPhone. Also extremely easy to put on and off if you want to use the phone naked. Very soft inside and no worries about any scratches to the phone.

To be honest, I bought this a few days before I got the iPhone since I was buying other things from Amazon and had the intention to buy a "better" case later. But I am so delighted with it that I'm sticking with it rather than buying anything else. Very highly recommended.

That looks like the winner so far ... and at that price, it's worth grabbing for sure.

I love mine, and the car charger as well. I highly recommend.

Update .... I just got the cases and I have to say, this one....

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07433JW5Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

is AMAZING. I've been a long time iPhone user over the years and have been through tons of cases for them. I've never seen a better match as far as looks, protection, thinness, and price goes. If you have the iPhone X in silver, this one (with the clear back and silver frame) is a no-brainer. The silver around the rim makes it look like you have no case on at all and the feel is perfect .... not too tacky or too smooth.

I bought this one to gauge the size of the X before it came out and it’s actually quite a nice case if you want something minimal that shows off the phone:

https://www.amazon.com/TOZO-Perfect-Protect-transparent-Lightweight/dp/B075CBHK3F

Note, it’s a hard case and has no top lip, but the camera bump is well protected. I will say this case feels the closest to no case out of any case I’ve owned. The coloring on the side also looks nice.

I also have a black leather Apple Case which I find a bit uncomfortable to hold due to the cut out at the bottom digging into my hand.
