They had to find something to brag about since they would not have 5G in time. I'd say we'll be seeing more phones with 5G capability sooner then wifi6 and apple will be the odd man out.

Honestly, 5G isn't really available anywhere. It's something to brag about but it's useless right now.

If I'm Apple, I leverage the fact that 5G isn't available anywhere and use it as an excuse to hold off releasing it for a year and work on improving performance.

Most of the planet doesn't have 5G in 2019 so it's not a big deal. We all know it's coming in the iPhone 12 next year so there's no point crying about it. Besides, existing first-gen 5G modems are power hungry & not energy efficient so they'll nuke your battery in no time when you push them hard.

I'm happy to wait.

I'm not referring to Apple, I'm referring to users posting here about bragging the Wi-Fi 6, but dropping when it comes to 5G!

5G is so rare right now I don't see why so many people are getting upset by its absence.

Anyway the new iPhones come in green.

Isn't the WiFi 6 exactly the same gimmick as the 5G?

How is it a gimmick ? Faster speeds is a gimmick ? Maybe you should try using sprints 2G or 3G network then because 4G is a gimmick as well then. Sprint data service is unusable if you’re not on 4G. It’s 3G is only good for light web browsing and emails basically.

Longevity wise I would of liked it but tbh 4G is fine for me . Don’t need 5G lol. Diminishing returns honestly and 4G is good enough for me

How do you think things ever get started? The networks need to trial 5G towers, and the handset manufacturers need to trial 5G phones - it starts in the lab, it goes to a field proof-of-concept and then a small scale public / commercial launch. Eventually it becomes mainstream & everyone takes it for granted. See also: Gartner Hype Cycle.

Same as everything ever. The only unfortunate part is the BS hype that goes with it these days - too many blank pages to fill in-between paid web advertising & monetised clicks.

First Mover Advantage is still generally of value to many firms across many sectors though, they see a benefit from being viewed as an innovator at the cutting edge - Apple being the notable exception, and I'm personally happy to buy the best rather than the first. YMMV.

No. You can get Wifi 6 speeds now, if you buy an AX router, and its 5-fold increase in speed. 5G is hardly anywhere.

@Coffee_Time , in addition to what @Rafterman said, search YouTube for videos that explain "benefits of WiFi 6"

If you see a particularly good one, can you post a link so that others with same question will have it answered?
