The belief is that leather comes from cows and cows are I guess one of the largest contributors to global warming.

Cows fart a lot and that’s methane gas (CO2). So the thought is to move away from a large source of CO2 so Apple can reach its goal to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Not saying I agree with it. Just presenting Apple’s thought process here.

This is weird - it’s like from the leather case. I was hoping it would be more durable, especially for the price…

“This high-quality case is made to be durable and protect your iPhone. The FineWoven material may show wear over time. Interaction with MagSafe accessories will leave slight imprints. If you are concerned about this, we suggest you use an iPhone 15 Pro Silicone Case or Clear Case.”

I can’t decide between finewoven or plastic. The design of the pro looks amazing, I want to see it but hate the big white ring on the clear case. How does it hold up over time? I’m worried about dirt getting in there, at least with apples other cases it has a microfibre lining

Alternatively might wait for third party cases

I didn't watch the broadcast... why the move away from leather to this Finewoven material? Is it a sustainability thing?

What's wrong with leather?
It's an environmental thing according to Apple. According to the Wunderlust presentation, they're trying to meet specific environmental goals by 2030 I think? And using leather cases farmed from cattle is, of course, bad for the environment. I wanted a leather case for the 15, but I might try the FineWoven jawn out. Failing that, Bullstrap supposedly makes pretty good leather cases.

It feels like the styles are the same every year. I might choose to buy them from other brands if I buy 15 🤣

You’d think we’d be trying to get AWAY from throwaway plastic items. Fairly sure leather decomposes a lot better than plastic will. At best we’re just borrowing plastic from the landfill until we put it back. We’re already killin the cow for other products.

I miss those too. Think they discontinued white with the iPhone 13?
iPhone 12 I think. Disappointed as well... they have white phones but stopped making white cases. I have 13 and have to settle for light blue or yellow case (hate the feel of the clear case).

This is just POOR GREENWASHING from Apple!!
What's wrong with leather? Nothing, that is just a super durable material and premium feeling too, the more it comes from food industry wastes...
Fine Woven? Probably a cheap polyester fabric made from petroleum, and losing microplastics too...

Probably the worst case colours they've offered ever? And no Product Red?!

Apple has completely turned their back on Product Red, except the S9 Apple Watch. Extremely disappointing.

Where’s my Red silicone case for the 15 Pro Max? The Red silicone case is basically my trademark.

Not gonna play with their anti-leather foolishness. Kinda surprised it took Apple this long to get on that ill-thought bandwagon.

I guess (product) RED reminds Tim of the hurt that animals go through when they are processed for food and leather goods. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Received my FineWoven black case today, ngl i'm a bit disappointed, that's definitely not worth the price, the leather one was way premium.

I ordered the green case, and it looks black in pretty much all lighting. Very disappointed. I actually kind of like the feel, but it is not on par with the quality the pricing suggests. It should be $40 and the colors represented in advertising and on the box are HIGHLY misleading.
