I don't think anything will come here from Apple in near future that needs 12GB RAM or makes a big difference. And if so, I still can change/upgrade to a Pro. But the lightness of the non Pro is really nice!

i can’t deceide! i would love a less heavier phone but have fear that the battery and camera is much worse on the base17. switching from a 15pro

True. To be honest, I'm probably going to want to upgrade for the iPhone's 20th anniversary anyway. I doubt we'll get anything super major that would require 12GB until then.

I feel you. After watching and reading articles about battery on these phones I decided to go for Pro, because battery is my main priority. Still love the base 17 but if battery is a big thing for you I think the Pro might be the better choice.

Yeah, also it’s kinda dumb rationally but I’m just more excited about the Pro. I bought a base 16 last year and it just didn’t feel that nice so I returned it. I’m also coming from a 13 mini, which I had 3 times to always have the best quality version of it. The mini is an amazing phone but compromised, and I just want the best possible device this time. The 17 is a great phone and I don’t think the battery or camera is that much of a step down from the Pro, but I just want to get the best device I can. Ordered a Blue 6.3” Pro last night

I can't relate to that because I always had Pro models lol I still think the base 17 is the best value for money overall. And for me the only real reason I picked the Pro now is my battery anxiety. 😅 (Max is to big for my hands so that is out of question unfortunately, had in the past and its just a brick to me)

Yeah I’ve held on to wanting to use a mini for too long, but I’ve always gone with 15 and 16 inch MacBook Pros so just happy to have something properly capable with the phone now

Interesting tidbit, seems like the extra RAM is a good quality of life improvement

Another big difference is the USB C port. 20 times faster in the pro at 10 Gbps! Anyone shooting serious video or using a big external keyboard, mouse, & display will need the pro. Not to mention gaming with a big 4k monitor, this phone has the chops to be a serious ultra portable gaming rig.
You are absolutely correct. And the segment of users who do these things likely represent 1/10th of 1% of all Pro/ProMax users. I have at least a dozen friends with these things (including myself) and no one cares about the more capable USB-3 spec.

USB 3 is essential for running an external SSD for, e.g. ProRes RAW video capture.

I think it’s very cheesy of Apple to not put USB 3 on the regular or even Air. It’s 2025. But, at the same time, the slow USB port will never make a difference to me, because I will never use it for data.
