we don't really know if it's the iphone, just speculating; it could be Palm?

Yeah, saw that coming. I doubt it will be 4G though. I'd imagine Apple is putting pressure on AT&T to get their 4G network completed enough to release iPhone 5 (4G) for all 3 networks. If not this June, next January.

The way the event invitation is worded, it sounds a lot like they're promoting something alot bigger than the iPhone. Especially with David Blaine there.

yeah the iPhone isnt a first at all.. unless its wimax. and we would have gotten wind of that by now...

My bet, "first to offer 4g, for the price of the other guys 3g." and some new offerings like first 4g EVO tablet.

That's a mighty big stretch. I can see an Android phone before the iPhone here... Now if they had unicorns and pixie dust instead of David Blaine, that might be a different thing...

it's not the iPhone. clearly the flyer says that sprint will announce an "industry first" of which the iPhone 4 is not.

They're even having a magician there! Top that Verizon. I'm not entirely convinced its going to be the iPhone. Sprint getting the iPhone is not exactly an "industry first". I'm guessing an iPhone that runs on WiMax. That would technically be the first 4G iPhone.

David Blaine is going to raise Palm from the dead?

Those words are coming from a marketing person at a wireless company.

By that, I mean, they might lie.

An iPhone 4 with the $69.99 450/unl/unl plan would easily qualify as an "Industry First" in their minds.

It actually says "another industry first". IDK, just seems a little more leeway than just saying industry first. They could be saying first time the iPhone has been on a truly unlimited plan. They could be taking their marketing from TiVo, who talked up the Premiere way beyond what they delivered. Then again, it could well be something totally different and nothing to do with iPhone.

How long was it in other countries once the iPhone went to a second carrier, till it went to a third or fourth?

Eidt: Could well be the Playbook. good guess. thebubbatex

Once the verizon iPhone is jailbroken and unlocked, there will be a Sprint iPhone, since they are both CDMA.

And don't worry everyone, it may take time, but it will happen.

Whether it can/will happen or not - both Verizon and Sprint allow phones on their networks via the phone's ESN number. If your jailbroken iPhone is not in Sprint's database, it is not going to work.

I dont think unlocking a CDMA device is the same as with GSM phones with a simple sim card switch.
You will need the blessings of your provider to allow you to use it on their network and a few other obstacles as well.

Ahh yes after posting that I did some homework and you are right...It's been years since I've owned any cell phone. I forgot that what makes GSM simple to unlock is the SIM card...
