The Beatles Are Coming to Sprint.™

in other news, David Blaine has come down in the world...

Apple wouldn't waste their time on dead-end WiMax.

My guess is that Sprint is debuting a new Android phone or possible a new WebOS phone or tablet.

4G tablet for sure. Tablets are the hottest thing right now. It makes sense for Sprint to hype a 4G model like this at this juncture in time. Nothing else in my mind justifies the moniker of "industry first". Well other than a 4G iPhone which I just don't see happening 2 weeks after Verizon finally debuts a 3G model. Verizon would know that Sprint had this up their sleeves and no way would they want their launch happening 3 days later to be minimized.

well its not webos because HP is having their event two days later on the 9th. So its either, 4G tablet (playbook or android), some new Android phone thing, or possible but not likely the iPhone. And Apple is definitely not putting in a WiMax radio. That would be stupid on their part since WiMax is only really used by Sprint. I mean Sprint does use CDMA so there really wouldnt be anything difficult on Apples part. I havent heard anything about a Sprint tower on Apple's campus. And that is not an industry first unless yes to a couple posts above about the first time the iPhone has been on unlimited plan.

.......

All we have to do is wait to see if GIZMODO is uninvited!

There was a year of rumors and evidence pointing to an early 2011 Vz iPhone. With NO sign of it before hand Sprint is going to announce they will have the iPhone a few days before Verizon releases the iPhone? I would bet my (soon to have) iPhone that it is not an iPhone.

I dont think unlocking a CDMA device is the same as with GSM phones with a simple sim card switch.
You will need the blessings of your provider to allow you to use it on their network and a few other obstacles as well.

It isn't as easy but it is doable. VZW unlocks all phones if you tell them that you're leaving the country. At the same time, you can get it unlocked by carrier unlock's site or manually through the 16 digit pin code which you must input in the "hidden" menu. I don't know where that is on the iPhone and how it will be done but I have done it on the BlackBerry Tour, Storm 2, and HTC Droid Incredible - all using very similar steps.

Great, but Sprint still will not activate a Verizon phone on their network.

They unlock the GSM side of the phone probably.
And like said above you need your carrier to accept the device to their network.
Not a simple thing as switching a sim. You have to deal with flashing the new carriers settings on the phone etc...

iPhone!

I am looking at it this way:

1. Sprint schedules an announcement days after saying the iPhone is not exclusive to Verizon

2. The announcement is scheduled just before Verizon release (my guess is so Sprint customers don't jump ship)

3. They pull their ad saying that the Evo is a superior phone to the iPhone

I'm just saying......

Nope. They have invited all of the Android bloggers to this event. Now why would they do that if it was an iPhone announcement?

Sprint will most likely get the iPhone someday. Could be the iPhone5 this June, or iPhone 6 or 7 , who knows, but would think eventually they get it. But highly doubt they getting the iPhone4 now.

That would be a smart move too.I can definitely see it happening right before the verizon release.
They'll probably get the white & black iphones & throw a ton of ads on tv & the internet on the 7th-10 to gain future verizon customers.

"Introducing Iphone 4G, An industries first 4g iphone only on sprint.. the now nextwork"

I hope they are getting the iPhone but i have a feelong that it wont be on the 7th. I'm ready if they do get it though because I've been out of contract with Sprint for a few months.

An industry first would be that guy David riding a unicorn, a real unicorn. Otherwise blah, sprint can't do anything to get me to be on their network

Possibilities:

1. David Blaine will levitate Dan Hesse while simultaneously jailbreaking the VZ iPhone using only his mind.

2. Sprint announces they are funding the long awaited Arrested Development movie and new ad campaign featuring slogan "It's an illusion Michael.". !

3. Dan Hesse rips off his mask to reveal that he's really been Steve Jobs the whole time. All AT&T and VZ iPhones are immediately bricked and Apple begins anew as phone maker and cellular provider.

Please let it be #2 :)
