I've been looking around, is there really only one attendee who thought it would be a good idea to get a sample of one of the bullet point features of the iPhone 14 pro?

I need to see a comparison to GoPro or at least a shake vs output video clip.

Neat, so basically it’s like GoPro’s HyperSmooth?

If they add a feature for the Ultra wide lens to perform similarly to the GoPro Max Lens Mod, that would basically for me negate the need for a GoPro which I already don’t use that often.
This is what I was thinking although I have a dusty Osmo action laying around. Might be put up on the marketplace soon
GoPro’s HyperSmooth can be toggled on or off in any video mode on a GoPro.

The iPhones Action mode is an individual standalone video mode, like selecting Cinematic mode or Slow Motion.

Action mode on the iPhone captures up to 2.8K at 60 fps.

HyperSmooth on a GoPro Hero 10 Black captures up to 5.3K at 60fps + 4K at 120fps with 45° horizon levelling.

So output wise basically GoPro's hyper smooth Lite. Go with gopro if you need 5.3k stabilized video

This isn't good enough (for paying for an upgrade).
I'd like Action AND Cinematic in one mode.
Otherwise, I'm happy to just use cinematic with a gimbal which is the outcome i want - cinematic stabilised shots.

Then again, there is always the iPhone 15 to wait for...
Is it confirmed that it’s either one or the other?
It would also be amazing if said action (or action + cinematic) would be data usable in Final Cut Pro to choose “how much” of that stabilization to apply… just like today you can change focus and defocus amount on a cinematic video even after it was recorded.

That’s if the stabilization seen here is indeed better than what the built-in stabilization of Final Cut will ever be able to do.

I'm sure the reviews coming out this coming week will have more of that.

That and also I wouldn’t go doing things like snowboarding with an iPhone 14 Pro attached to my helmet…

The GoPro definitely has a lot more sturdiness and a form factor made to withstand impact.

Agreed. That is probably the main and only reason I have an action cam although I guess the dust on my action cam is more of a reflection I need to do more outdoor activities than its usefulness.

Ok, I’m keeping my Osmo action.

Just like most gimbals, it won’t help with Y axis movements, like footsteps.

It also won’t keep your phone level, which is the main job of a gimbal.
It would be interesting if combination of Action mode and gimbal would bring some even higher level of stabilization. I never tried any of that so just speculating.

I doubt it will help. iPhones don’t generally play well with gimbals as you can’t turn off stabilisation and it fights the gimbal. Anyway, unless you have a very wide angle and background far away, which combine to reduce the magnification of the movement, I don’t think it will be effective. It doesn’t look it’s going to do anything for things like walking around a house with a gimbal:
