Given both my history of (rightfully) criticizing all the stupid crap Apple does, and the tidal wave of complaining around here with the 15 series launch, I thought I’d share my iPhone 15 upgrade experience because I’m quite happy.

T-Mobile gave me a hilariously good trade in deal for the 12 Mini I bought two years ago. I didn’t want to part with my Mini but they basically gave me the 15 for free.

This is my first launch-day iPhone ever.

It’s fantastic. Took off the charger yesterday morning, still at 25% as of this post. Incredible battery for my use case.

Love the rounded edges and frosted back. Feels great in the hands, not super slippery, and doesn’t drive my OCD nuts like all the other shiny-surface devices. Been a pleasure to use it naked (naked phone that is) until my Amazon case arrives.

USB-C is so nice. Disregard that I now have something like 13 lightning cables that are useless, I can plug this thing into whatever I want. HDMI dongle to projector at a party? Bingo. Audio interface for better music video recording? Cake. No proprietary crap needed.

The bigger screen has taken some adjustment but the extra space does feel excellent.

The cameras are superb in standard shooting modes. Portrait mode adds some pretty obvious processing, particularly around the edges of subjects. Not my cup of tea. Too fake-looking.

Very very happy overall. I even like the hint-of-blue color quite a lot. Super classy.

The speakers sound a lot better to me, haven’t heard anything about that, not sure if my 14 pro max speakers were just bad or what but this thing sounds way better.

I went to today from 3-year-old iPhone 12 Mini to a new 15 Plus. Big change terms of phone size, but change is good! Just about $100 net cost with T-Mobile trade-in, and even that is spread over 24 monthly payments -- and that as an existing T-Mobile customer on a well-priced over-55 plan. I did the transaction at the Apple Store. Hard to rationalize not upgrading your old phone with those sorts of deals if you have no plans to switch carrier.

Can't comment vs anything but the 12 Mini but the 15 speakers are indeed leagues better than the 12 Mini.

You're perhaps on a Magenta Max or other plan that offers the 800 trade-in? I think higher priced plans offer more features but also seem to include phone subsidies where it seems one really should trade in at 2 or 3 year internals to be worth it. I'm on One Unlimited and it seems like the lower 350 vs 800 trade-in is in total cheaper if for example I trade-in every 4 or 3 years.

You are right. If you keep your phones for 4 years, you might be better going for a lower-priced plan with fewer subsidies. But I need the more expensive plans anyway for other reasons -- especially inflight Wifi and high-speed internet overseas. I travel a lot. So given I'm on that plan, I'd be leaving money on the table if I did not upgrade my 3-year-old phone this year. Same would actually probably apply to a 2-year-old one last year, but I was holding out for USB-C. Plus I get the over-55 rate, which makes a difference

The jump from my 6s to base model 15 is pretty impressive. Loving this green with a clear case. Would love a Fender Strat this color green. Little lighter than surf green. Great phone.

I'm undecided yet there are various good reasons to upgrade: more RAM, more comfortable to hold, and possibly less eye strain from PWM going from iPhone to Pro.

The heat issues it's hard to tell what it is. As many don't experience such, it could be some bug with some process using excessive CPU, assembly issues that affect heat dissipation, or something else. Next year the A18 could possibly see a larger than typical jump in performance but I might not be a fan of the rumored size increase. Who knows.

I feel the same way. Compared to my 14PM the 15PM is much, much louder and full sounding. The speaker at the top of the phone I think is much louder now.

Definitely! Speaker volume and clarity are worlds different!!

In particular listening to MadTwins latest real on IG earlier today was just too good. Hearing the vocals go up I couldn’t hear on my son’s 12 mini I handed down. Yeah he’s vexed but I’ll get him the same 15 Pro I have in a few short weeks.

Ps the data speed both over 5G and LTE VS THE 13 mini is impressive.

Congrats on your new phone! Tried them out in store and I agree, both the regular and Pro exceeded my expectations. Loved the new rounded edges, feels great. Cool colors too.

Next year will be my upgrade year. :)

15 Plus here… upgrade from my 13 Pro. The new phone is more than fast enough, the size of the screen is easier on my eyes and the phone, despite its size, is lighter than my old phone. And battery life… after two full days, I was still at 38 percent last night. A solid purchase for me.

The 15 Plus battery is hands down one of the most solid performing batteries in a smartphone I have used. I used to love the Note/Ultra series for 5,000mah batteries but this thing lasts almost 2 days with regular use. Apple Music in the car, FaceTime throughout the day with co workers, Apple Music on at work for about 7 hours, throw in some Snapchat, a few phone calls, browsing overnight because I cannot sleep. I will say that the Plus is very solid this year and is closing the gap with the Pro Max. Action button who?😁😁😁😁😁😁

Went from a 13 pro to a 15 pro max. No issues at all. Love it! Everything is just so much better than the 13.

This year the regular iPhone 15 feels like the best choice -to me-, and even aesthetically I like them more than the 15 Pro. Congratulations for your purchase.

I have a question, tho. How did you get used to the iPhone 15 size, provided that it is actually bigger than the previous 6.1" devices (and you come from a mini)? How's your one-handed use?

From what I have seen, the plus battery exceeds the pro max battery

I officially made it two whole days with 4-5 hours of screen on time each day on a single charge.

Let’s not forget, “time since last full charge” was actually useful and whoever at Apple decided that “screen on time” was better should be fired.

I am very happy with my 15 Plus. Loving the bigger size (upgraded from a 13), enjoying the Dynamic Island, and the battery is wonderful.

I really liked my 13 Pro, but it was a little too heavy. I traded it in. Tomorrow will be a week on the 15 Pro. I wasn't sure at first, but I am liking it more and more every day. Little things like the weight, and always on display make it worth it. No issues with heat or anything else. Yeah, battery life isn't really better than the 13 Pro, but that's fine. No looking back now.

i'm pretty salty about how iPhone finally got usb-c, i've been waiting for that for years. i only got my 14 PM last year but i plan on upgrading to 16 pro next year anyways. going back to regular size because i'm kinda getting sick of carrying around a massive phone and i do miss the smaller size.

Yup. I also realized that today. Much better sounding speakers on the 15 PM than on the 14 Pro.
