Wait... So in the end we won't get new MBPs tomorrow? Wtf? Why not??? Chip shortages again?
division of events to increase their focus and reduce the length. there’s less buzz without an audience for real-time reactions. so they go from movie plot to mini series plots.

Expectation is the M1X, surprised is the M2.;)
they probably will do a larger than 13” laptop with M1 for entry level (to make the midrange 16” M1X MBP look like better value to consumers for one thing). whether they call it MBP or MB or MBA and make it lighter like the 13” MBA is a decision their product designers and marketing gurus will have worked a gallazion hours into.

As is frequently the case, Apple’s 2021 product launch schedule seems to be weighted toward the latter part of the year, with a number of new products still expected to debut. While Apple is planning to hold an event this week, it won't include everything Apple's expected to announce before the year ends.

apple-california-streaming-event-tag.jpg

On Tuesday, September 14, Apple will be holding its "California streaming" event, which is expected to include the release of the brand new iPhone 13, Apple Watch Series 7, and possibly the third-generation AirPods.

Given we're expecting several new products before the end of the year, it's important to note that this single event, out of what is likely to be at least two events of this fall, will not include the launch of everything we're expecting. Here's a quick rundown of everything we're not likely to see at the Apple event on Tuesday, September 14.

Larger Apple Silicon iMac

2020-iMac-Mockup-Feature-27-inch-text-1.jpg

Out of a few updates expected for the Mac lineup this year, some Apple customers may be on the lookout for a larger iMac powered with Apple silicon. Currently, Apple offers the M1 Apple silicon chip in its redesigned 24-inch iMac; however, the larger 27-inch models are still powered with Intel processors.

Apple had previously paused work on a larger Apple silicon iMac to develop the 24-inch iMac, released this April. Due to that pause, the larger iMac is not expected to be released until early next year, so don't be on the lookout for any significant iMac product releases during the "California streaming" Apple event.

14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros

16-inch-macbook-pro-m2-render.jpg

If it feels like we've been waiting for the redesigned 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros for an eternity, it's because we have. Apple is expected to release the all-new MacBook Pros, which will not only feature a more powerful Apple silicon chip but also major design changes and brand new displays, later this fall.

Apple last year debuted its first round of Apple silicon Macs during an event in November, and Apple is likely to do the same this year. Apple is unlikely to include any updates or mentions of the Mac during its event on Tuesday, September 14, as it will want the attention to revolve around the iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman this week reported that Apple is planning another event later in the fall focused on the Mac and iPad. That event is likely to include the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros, as well as iPad updates.

Redesigned iPad mini

iPad-mini-pro-feature-2.jpg

The fifth-generation iPad mini was released in March of 2019, and an update is expected to come this fall. The new sixth-generation iPad mini will include a similar design to the iPad Pro and iPad Air but in a smaller and lighter form. The new iPad mini is also rumored to have a USB-C port and the A14 chip. We're expecting the new iPad mini to launch this fall, but it's unlikely to make an appearance at Tuesday's Apple event.

Redesigned M1X Mac mini

m1x-mac-mini-screen-feature.jpg

Apple is hard at work on a new high-end version of the Mac mini, last updated with the M1 Apple silicon chip in November of 2020. The new model is rumored to include a more powerful "M1X" Apple silicon chip and a new design with additional ports and a "plexiglass" top.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has reported the new Mac mini is only "several months away," meaning a launch could be in store for this year. If Apple is planning a launch this year, it could come at the same event that includes the launch of the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros, possibly sometime in October or November.

Second-Generation AirPods Pro

AirPods-Pro-Gen-2-Feature.jpg

Apple is working on the second-generation of the AirPods Pro, marking the first update to the product since it launched in October of 2019. The new AirPods are rumored to feature a more compact design, a new wireless chip, improved sound quality, as well as updated motion sensors for fitness tracking. While the AirPods Pro is due for an update, we're not expecting to hear any AirPods Pro news until next year.

macOS Monterey Release Date

macos-monterey.jpg

iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, tvOS 15, and macOS Monterey are all set to be released to the public this fall, following their preview in June and months of public and developer beta testing. The iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7 will ship with iOS 15 and watchOS 8 respectively, and a general release date for both operating systems is likely to be announced during Tuesday's event.

While macOS Monterey is also set to be released in the fall, macOS updates have sometimes tended to be released later in the fall, such as in October or November. Last year, Apple held the general release of macOS Big Sur until November to coincide with the release of new Apple silicon Macs. As we're expecting new Macs this year, Apple may similarly decide to hold macOS Monterey until the new Macs are released.

Conclusion

While Apple could surprise us all with some unexpected product launches during its "California streaming" event, we're unlikely to see any big surprises. Apple will hold several digital events over the next several months and rumors about the remaining events for the year are sure to start appearing following Tuesday. The iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7 event will take place on Tuesday, September 14, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

Therese phone upgrades are getting boring, nothing revolutionary, minor improvements, ridiculous prices, our current phones are more than fine.

I agree with this, but for a different reason. The old, in-person events used to feel way too long. Not only lots of time wasted with transitions and back-patting over how retail performed every year, but I simply don't care what's going on with the Mac or iPad every year. If I'm in the market for one, I'd watch a separate 45 minute event.

But I generally watch the iPhone and Watch launch every year because it helps me decide if there's anything noteworthy that might interest me in upgrading. The Macs are too expensive and too incremental to live that way. I'll keep my 2018 until it dies or is no longer getting macOS upgrades. Likewise with iPad, I'll hold onto my iPad Pro 10.5" from 2017 until it dies or stops getting updates. It's just too expensive to be dropping $1000 every time something slightly newer comes out. I'd rather just check in to a separate event if I have time to know what's going on, and keep the iPhone launch short and straight to the point.
pretty much same here but that’s not why i used to watch the Apple events and WWDC keynotes. i was interested in the new ground apple was breaking and how they were tracking in the industry. for sure their narrative was always biased and will remain that way but it was interesting when there was a lot of change in this area at the junction of Commerce and the Liberal Arts as jobs so famously put it.

for a while iPhone was so out in front of anything out there it was the industry event to watch/attend. going further back the PPC macs were revolutionary. Apple Silicon has made things interesting again. will their be dedicated GPUs with dedicated RAM and eGPUs or will they stick with shared RAM (which comes with benefits but also performance costs when you’re driving two 4K screens and maxing out the cpu ram at the same time, i had to send the 8Gb M1 mac mini back as it just locked up too much for my liking. was going to replace with 16 Gb but figured may as well wait for M1x/m² range of macs and choose then). there’s lots of interesting developments to come in Mac compared to years of just retail marketing driven blah blah blah.

What about the naming? I still think new iPhones won’t be named as iPhone 13. For me an iPhone 12s denomination is more likely.

another boring show for the phone people.. followed by a week of sycophant podcasts trying to pump it up with endless recaps.

Exactly.

There's nothing quite as pathetic as a full-grown man with his mouth agape in pleasure over a phone.

What NOT to Expect:

Products that you can control, maintain, and customize to suit your purpose.

A company that views you as an adult, respects your privacy, and believes you are the actual owner of your purchases.

Have the 13 branded cases not leaked already? 13 seems sure and S names are out these days at Apple.

Pure, unadulterated snark.

Happy with my MacBook Pro 2012 with 16Gb RAM and 2Tb SSD. But waiting for a new MBP so I can buy top spec. 64Gb, 8Tb SSD with latest M processor. Sooner I can invest in that the better. And also want a Mac Mini currently 16Gb plus 2Tb but waiting for a higher spec one when released.

If Apple wanted to get their Jobsesque swagger back, the macbook pros would be their "one more thing". They don't have to release them tomorrow, but they should reveal them today.

No Mac Pro updates either, in fact it such a joke at this point why even mention it in this article.

I’m guessing it will be Apple Silicon M3 or M4 before they bother with their Pro workstations.

They still need a few more years to redesign the G4 cube / Trashcan form factor which they will call the ‘innovative’ or ‘brave’ and tout as the most expandable Mac ever as it will include 6 Thunderbolt4 and no other ports and proprietary graphics cards that can’t be changed!

Nope, you delve too deep, it's as in the words, Apple event streaming from California, nothing behind it this time.
I was right though 😛
They even started with TV+.

That was my personal prediction, because no matter what the name of the event was going to be, they would have talked about those two.

Sad announcement peppered throughout with superlatives. Oh! a 12mp camera.. so what? My Huawei P30 Pro released March 2019 has a better camera and zoom capability with battery life of 24 hours or in ultra saving mode 74 hours! That said I am waiting for the MacBook Pro 16" announcement(s).

Hate the fact Apple now build in obsolescence by hard wiring the RAM and storage so one is unable to self upgrade but how else can they force users to buy the next new model. My two mid 2012 unibody MacBooks run sweetly with their 16Gb and 2Tb SSDs with Catalina.

The 'new' MBP equivalent would cost me £3399. Each of mine cost me £700 once upgraded! Just wondering when they will hobble them by locking them out from the next OS upgrade like they did with my 2011 MBP.

Meanwhile I bought an HP Spectre x360 15-eb0001na 4K OLED with Pen for £1999 for my son... Wow! Touchscreen with flip screen capability. Plus the ability to self upgrade the storage to a maximum 8Tb for £1500. Awesome!

Apple is trailing far behind on the technology front... for me only the easy to use, intuitive interface is what makes an Apple worth having coupled with an OS that is stable and relatively safe from viruses compared to the Windows OS which is dire.

Yup you put half the guessing analysts to shame. Nicely done.
