Any CarPlay fixes?

Ever since the first day of 26 and through 26.1 and 26.2; CarPlay keeps disconnecting, starting with a black screen, ... No amount of troubleshooting, forgetting, re-pairing has helped.

iPhone 15, 16, 17 ... different vehicles and setups; nothing works reliably. Perhaps the older OttoCast the most.

I received a notification that the bug (since 26.2 I believe… maybe earlier) I reported has been fixed (haven’t tested it yet). The issue was an AirPlay bug where, when a song started playing, there was no sound at all on my Sonos speakers. To continue playing music, I had to manually skip to the next track. However, this problem would recur repeatedly.

Changes have been released that should have addressed this issue. If you are still experiencing this behavior, please submit a fresh report so that we can continue to investigate.

Thank you for your feedback.

  • EU: demands Apple to open its platform.
  • Macrumors users: “EU is crazy! Apple should pull out from Europe!”
  • Apple: makes requested features available only in the EU.
  • Macrumor users: Hey! I want that too!
EU has been a benefit. Unfortunately a few complain because they’re used to Apple doing whatever it wants. The EU is responsible for the usb-c cables from lightening. And influenced mag-safe standardization by prompting Apple to share (because the EU would’ve gotten involved). There have been other benefits that spilled over (making batteries easier to replace by 2027). I’m glad for the “Brussels effect.”

The transfer tool can be useful for those shifting from one OS to another. Other than that, I think it is a small update. Notification forwarding would have been nice if it were made available worldwide.

Apple today seeded the second beta of iOS 26.3, nearly a month after the first beta. So far, the update includes a couple of new features for iPhones.

iOS-26.3-Feature.jpg

iOS 15.3 through iOS 18.3 were all released in late January over the years, so it is thereby likely that iOS 26.3 will be released towards the end of this month as well. The update is compatible with the iPhone 11 series and newer.

Below, we recap what is new in the iOS 26.3 beta so far.

iPhone to Android Transfer Tool

iOS 26.3 makes it easier for iPhone users to switch to an Android device. A new tool allows you to place your iPhone next to an Android device to wirelessly transfer photos, messages, notes, apps, and more. You can also transfer your phone number.

In the iOS 26.3 beta, the new tool can be found in the Settings app, under General → Transfer or Reset ‌iPhone‌ → Transfer to Android. It is available worldwide.

Notification Forwarding in EU

ios-26-3-notification-forwarding.jpg

In the EU, iOS 26.3 introduces both a Notification Forwarding feature and AirPods-like proximity pairing for third-party accessories like earbuds and smartwatches.

Apple was required to make these changes to comply with the EU's Digital Markets Act.

ios-26-3-weather.jpg

Starting with iOS 26.3, there is a dedicated section for Weather wallpapers, with three preset options available to choose from. To access them, tap and hold on the Lock Screen and tap on the plus sign in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

February is Black History Month, and iOS 26.3 will likely include the 2026 version of Apple's annual Black Unity wallpaper. Apple also typically releases a new Black Unity Sport Loop for the Apple Watch, and a matching Unity Rhythm watch face.

iOS 26.1 introduced a Background Security Improvement feature that is designed to provide security updates for Safari, WebKit, and some other system items between iOS software updates. Apple has been testing the feature with updates such as "iOS 26.3 (a)" and "iOS 26.3 (b)," but they do not actually contain any security fixes.

Additional new features and bug fixes may be added in later beta versions of iOS 26.3. Overall, though, it will likely be a relatively minor update.

Beta 2

We have not discovered any major changes in the second beta of iOS 26.3 so far.

will it still look awful?

I remember when folks reacted like this to iOS 7.
I remember updating without realising what was about to happen. Probably less aware because I wasn't a regular iPhone user at that point, but I wasn't too happy to say the least, but it was only an iPad used for casual browsing and reading. So not mission critical.

Who should I be pissed at, since the iPhone doesn't allow granular control of notifications to third-party wearables?

It's no problem on Android with Garmin, Fitbit, Pebble, or any other device.
to your administration of course.

The administration is responsible to pass policies for and only for individual rights of their citizens. Their sole existance relies upon doing that while creating a fair, competitive scene for corporations.

US has lost its way so deeply and has been controlled by corporations so blatantly in the last 100 years, that it almost feels alien to ask for basic rights as consumers and citizens.

EU is (currently) the only reason that these efforts are (forcibly) made by any conglomerates.

Apple is the only company with a closed ecosystem (for now) - But I'm not sure if any Android phone offers same level heightened experience for their wearables - ie Samsung giving AirPods the same level of ease of use on a galaxy phone as their earbuds.

It seems the much-anticipated “Disable Liquid Glass system-wide” feature has not been added. We'll have to stick with iOS 18 then.

What bugs are being fixed in iOS 26.3?
I hope they will fix the Safari bugs introduced with 26.2; three web pages I use regularly have now different issues; one does not work at all, one does not allow to sign in and in one the embedded audio player stopped working.

I am soon going to switch permanently to Edge as it has none of these issues.

Thank you for commenting about this. I've been having this exact bug and it was driving me nuts. AirPlaying to Sonos, one track would play fine, then the next one was silent. I'd have to skip back/forth to get sound output again. I'm glad a fix is inbound.

I really hope the Forward Notifications feature is released globally. Garmin watch users would rejoice!
