Great, more android features. 👍
wow said while totally forgetting what Android looked like BEFORE iPhone... LOL

Jobs said they patented the heck out of it.
always wondered why they didnt fight harder to protect their UI stuff...

Do we know for sure that the iPads can’t also get this? The ones that are compatible with Apple Intelligence?
If I remember correctly Visual Intelligence is an iPhone-only feature. The reason given at first was that it uses the camera control button. But then I think they added access to it from Control Center.

It seems to me that none of that precludes using it on an iPad.

One quality of life improvement I'm waiting for is direct OCR for text in screenshots. Every time I need some text that is not otherwise selectable, I have to first save the screenshot somewhere on the phone before I can copy text from it. Why is this so complicated? Or am I just holding it wrong?

Visual Intelligence seems useful. I look forward to using it once I upgrade to a supported device.

On the screenhot screen, you have to select the

icon.

On iPhone, you may have to switch modes first using the marker

symbol. Then you’ll see
1749915074420.jpeg
at the bottom.

You may have to turn on Live Text first in Settings > General > Language & Region.

Why am I reminded of the scenes in Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" in which a worker has to manually move the arms of a big clock around to achieve a task that could be done more simply?

I wonder if it is any more accurate than look up. That is wrong most of the time when I use it.

In particular since Apple Intelligence is a mix of on-device and online functions, it would really make sense to offer a cloud fallback for devices that lack the resources to do it on-device. They can still upsell to newer hardware for on-device privacy, offline capability and lower latency.
Apple intelligence is simply fragmented. Either buy OpenAI and integrate it through the OS directly while throwing Siri in the dumpster, or get rid of AI entirely.

Does it support translation?

I'm planning a trip to China and after using some of the Chinese apps, even though some have English options there are a lot of times where some strings of text are just not translated. Popups, buttons, window titles etc. These bits of text are not selectable by the user therefore cannot be translated normally by the user.

It would be amazing if I could screenshot and use Visual Intelligence to translate those strings.

Can anyone confirm this?

If you take a step back and look at all of Apples "AI" features, it's amazing to me that such a large tech company can be so far behind the competition. When did Apple get so off track?

Hope they have auto delete my Apple Intelligence screenshots after using because that will eat up storage over time if you use it a lot.

To all the people complaining about it being inside the screenshot functionality - my understanding is that it will not save the screenshot if you choose to activate the screen search functions. Also, it's a completely logical place to have it, otherwise you would need another gesture to activate it without opening another app or the control centre (you could use Siri but then you would need to specify what it needs to be searching for).

I’ve been trying to test this on my m4 iPad Pro but can’t see any options for it. Is it only on phones?
