If only they had an always on display to go with it--insta purchase, because I don't care that much about the camera.

Given the stakes raised by Android OEM with always on display and fast refresh rate, Apple should only be using materials, chipset and cameras for the Pro models. Screen and other features should be the same.

I heard it was going to have a 5.4 inch display, weigh less than 80 grams with a 2-day battery life and be called iPhone 17 Svelte ... or was I dreaming?

Reading today about BYD's 1 Megawatt (5min) fast charging for their cars, reminds me just how far the US is falling behind on innovation. A small phone needs innovation ... putting the power of an iPhone 17 Pro/Plus/Max into a pocket- and wallet-friendly svelte package needs some serious thinking, something that Apple have lost the ability to do.

True there might be a 17e, but it wouldn't show up until early 2026 and would just be the 16e with an upgrade to the A19 and probably nothing else.
I can’t really see them releasing a 17E iPhone I think the 16E will be around for a long time

I think Apple will get the -e models into a yearly cadence. So the 16e drops in price (no idea if it will be with 50, 75 or 100 though) and a 17e is announced march 2026 at the current price of the 16e.

Basically what they also do with the regular 16 and 16 Plus, they keep it around and lower the price.

But that’s just my speculation, I have no info at all. We’ll have to wait and see ;)

Talk about feature dribble out to create sales, it will have taken three model years to get the three rear cameras to 48 mega pixels. BFD.

The top 17 model will probably have 12GB of ram and the following year 16 GB ram as that is what will be revealed then is required for AI....

This may be the year I go standard iPhone...

ProMotion's been the only thing holding me back (and Apple knows that).
I think they could introduce a new display feature that will make you want the Pro, like a lower reflective display.

I don’t see it because come September
The 15 & 15 plus will get removed as well as 16 pro & PM
So the line up would be 16E & 16 & 16 plus
17 & 17 pro & 17 PM & 17 air
So I really can’t see the E line up getting yearly refreshes

iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 (base models) are the best looking ones in their series and look way better compared to iPhone X, XS, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15
While I agree they look better than the 12 through 15, I think the X, XS and 11 were much better looking phones due to the rounded sides. The flat sides are ugly.

120 Hz display alone is a great upgrade to the base model. Should make it a very good iPhone. Expecting to hear more about it in the coming months.

Now THIS would be a good upgrade from the 11. Of course I wish they'd stop with the "pro" nonsense and merge the two offerings already. Or at least make the pro case colors interesting.

Yeah it is by no means guaranteed and it would definitely be a change from Apple's previous approach to entry level devices. That said using the name 16E may point to them going a different direction. I can easily see if going either way, or perhaps it becoming an every other year thing (18E in early 2027 that could bring some newer features such as the Dynamic Island).
