I don't now what exactly the sleep bug is, but all of my Macs for the last 15 years have had issues waking from sleep when plugged into an external monitor. My M1 Pro MBP had it. So did my 2018 MBP. My 2016 MBP had it really bad, but the worst offender was my 2012 MBP.

I've occasionally had some issues with my devices waking from sleep even without the external monitor. At least in some cases, it's safe to say it's a software issue that's independent of the hardware. There has to be something deep in MacOS regulating sleep that is always barely working as intended because nearly every time Apple releases a new OS version, I know there's a good chance sleep issues will return. I've come to expect that so much that I try to wait 6-12 months before updating OS versions. That's usually how long it takes Apple to re-fix that constantly recurring bug again.

If it's not happening to you, I wouldn't worry about it and if it is happening, my experience as someone who's experienced the whole gamut of laptop sleep issues is that it's mostly just an annoyance. It scares you the first few times it happens, but you quickly learn how to recognize that it's not broken. It just needs a reboot.

M2 Air in Midnight purchased November 2022. Best Mac I have ever had in decades as a Mac user. Love this machine and will be adding a MacBook Pro in the future. The Air has managed to outperform my expectations and needs and has actually delayed my Pro purchase. I made the transition from desktop to laptop only with the M2 Air leading the way and it has been tremendous. Use it for Logic with plug-ins for guitars and it has done all to suit my needs. The performance and battery life continue to amaze me, and I love the colour and design. Thank goodness for the return of MagSafe! I personally prefer no wedge as it means more battery life, and the midnight finish has held up beautifully for me personally. My inner Darth Vader is satisfied to have a dark side Mac. Hope it is always an option now.

I could write something almost exactly similar. My battery is still doing great at 91% and I've done nothing special to conserve it. My only gripe is the camera. Its ok, but I'm going to take advantage of the good current trade-in value and my education discount to get a new one for less that $500 primarily for a camera upgrade. Happy that the form factor hasn't changed.

Mine is still at 98%. I leave it plugged in all the time and have a big monitor and external keyboard attached.
The internal battery management stops loading at 80% at keeps it at a steady 80% with the option to fully load in case I need that. Only in the rare occasion when I take it with me (maybe 3 or 4 times a year) the battery is actually used.

I've had rare issues like this when I've left it running for days/weeks with thousands of things open hogging memory. Typically when I've got a boatload of browser windows open, MS Office (all the apps) with loads of large heavy weight spreadsheets and documents open, and all the emails open, spread over 15 virtual desktops and I'm too afraid to reboot because I'd have to close all the apps and save things... Oh the horror!

For me it's a once or twice a year thing if that. We don't need to reboot MacOS much these days, but I find that if do reboot once every 2-3 weeks, then this sort of thing happens less. With Apple silicon, a reboot costs a minute or two at most until I'm back with all my apps open ready to go.

Hey folks! Quick question — how’s your MacBook Air M2 holding up?

I’ve had mine since March and so far it’s been running super smooth — no issues at all.
But... I randomly searched for the “sleep bug” on Reddit and kinda spooked myself 😅
Now I’m lowkey worried it might eventually happen to mine too, even though everything’s fine right now.

Is this something I should actually be concerned about, or am I just falling into "panic mode"?
Only you can decide which way to go. But it sounds like you are very concerned about a problem developing and anything could happen. I'd suggest sell it now and get the new machine (M4).

How customized is yours? Is it 16gb / 1 TB? The more customized the harder reason to justify the upgrade. This is also my reason I don’t believe future proof.

I have 256 one with 16gb ram.

My wife has Starlight 16/1TB M2 Air and it's been perfect since new. She doesn't baby it either - it gets tossed into her backpack and goes back and forth to work with her each day.

Replying to myself here, but I should have kept my mouth shut! Last week, my wife's Air had the keyboard and trackpad fail (external devices worked fine).

Apple quoted about $450 to replace both, but fortunately it turned out that only the trackpad was bad - apparently a bad trackpad can make the keyboard nonresponsive as well. So the repair ended up being about $300.

I accidently drop my Macbook today . F***.
It my first drop. Everything is fine , no stretch. But one thing made me concern , if I drop in vertical way from sleeves. Any inside part of Macbook can be damge?

No moving parts. Not like the old days. If everything is good you're probably good to go.
