I would absolutely love to one day just carry one device with me for everything. But, until then, I've got an iMac at home, an MBA for the road and an iPad for all of the above. I tried replacing my iPad with an MBA, but there are just certain tasks where a tablet form factor is much more convenient, most of these involving consumption. If I want to get some serious work done, out comes my MBA.

But, I have to say, of all of my devices it's the MBA that gets used the least.

I had been using iPad for 2 years now, first as iPad 2 and now the retina iPad. Recently I bought 13" 2012 MBA to replace my old Windows PC.

While I love my MBA but if I knew I won't be downloading or doing a lot of typing, I'll use iPad rather than MBA, main reason is the screen. It's quite hard to look at MBA screen coming from retina display of iPad, text isn't as crisp, viewing angle is also far worse.

In the end, I use both around 50:50 and I carry iPad with me everywhere. Hate to type on iPad though.

Test it!

Hey man I have a MacBook Air 2011 and its great also have a iPad 2 use them both but the thing is the iPad is a bit of a useful gadget so you can do all the basic reading emailing watching youtube play games all that kind of things but the thing i did before buying the iPad 2 is to go to a local apple store and just test it see what its capable of doing reading what it can do is very different from going and feeling what it can do because apple will obviously market it on its webpages as the best and ultimate but it may not be for you.:apple:

I just got my MBA so I'm still working out exactly how it will fit with the iPad 2 I have. It seems like as others have said content creation is best on the Air and consumption is best on the iPad especially if you are in bed. I do play a few games on my MBA though like Call of Duty and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, so old games the air can run with no problem.

I'm considering buying the iPad 3 but love my Macbook Air. I use the Air for everything -- surfing, word processing, etc (but use a kindle for reading). I'm not worried about the money (it's a gift to myself) but don't want to buy a gadget I will not use.

Can some of you please tell me what you use your iPad for?

I had an iPad, but then I bought a MBA and stopped using my iPad....I recently sold it on eBay.

I have the latest of both device. In my opinion I use both equally with regard to daily usage. I often reading my pdf files and magazines on iPad. Every morning I love reading newspaper on iPad from Pressreader. Also, iPad is a great gadget when travelling by bus and train to kill time. Unlike MBA, iPad is like a toy, but MBA is a must for normal computer purposes.

That's exactly what I'm about to do. I have a iPad 2 & a 15" MBP (too much computer for my usage). I'm going to sell both & get a 13" MBA as my primary machine. The only thing is, I'm trying to hold out until the end of the year to see if there will be a retina 13" MBP (which I'll get over the MBA in a heartbeat).

Despite the MBAs size, it's a completely different device than the iPad. That's like saying you dont need a car because you bought a bicycle.

For some people that could work. But not for most.

I use my iPad very little since I got my Air, mostly in the car because it's a 3G model, I use it to monitor the weather and navigate, I spend a lot of time driving through tornado alley in prime tornado season. Other than that really not much anymore. I'm going to buy a boat and lots of people are using it for navigational charts and current position awareness so I will probably be in that boat soon.

Reading books. Reading email and browsing (particularly in bed). Using all sorts of iOS apps (obviously I can't run these on my MBA). Watching live and archived television (a great application).

For me, I use the iPad for fun/browsing and the MBA for work: Excel, Word, etc. Also use my MBA for downloading stuff lol. I've found uses for both, and I think this setup should last me at least the next 2 years. Also, being able to use the iPad as a second screen on the go is pretty cool too!
