Am I the only one that really dislikes the "Hey Siri" wake phrase? Maybe I've grown to accustomed to "Alexa", but that seems way nicer to say in comparison. Just the "hey.." part is what irks me, just sounds a little too "informal" in my opinion..

Granted I'm sure a wake word of just "Siri" would cause all kinds of false triggers. "OK Google" is worst yet I guess..

Anyone know of plans to change this in the future, or should I just get used to yelling out "hey" all the time?

All assistants should follow Echo's lead and offer "Computer" as an alternative wake word...

Then, if you have one of each, they'll all start fighting for attention.

And one of them is bound to get it right. Or maybe they'll become self-aware and tell each other to shut up!

No doubt Apple will stay on brand and keep it Siri but I agree about saying (or NOT saying) 'hey'. It even feels embarrassing to say 'hey' in public for some reason (probably because it catches other people attention since everyone responds to Hey). Just give me Siri. It was like Apple kinda copied 'OK Google' and had to add a pre word to Siri and though 'hey' would be more intimate or something. It is JUST a switch so don't make it a 2 step switch to cut on.

Might need at least 3 contrasting syllables to get the audio waveform reliable for the wake word.

Otherwise, it might be constantly triggering when hearing,

"Surely you can't be serious!"

"I'm serious, and stop calling me Shirley."

Y'all ain't from the south... :D

But in all honesty it would be nice for a single word. It could be as Bradleyone is saying, a specific requirement for the trigger.

I had an English teacher who used to chastise anyone who used the word "Hey". She would say "...hay is for horses". It's hard to not think of that every time I say "Hey Siri". I don't know why they don't just give a human name to each of the separate voices which would also address the problem of the device answering to TV ads. For a work environment, I think it sounds unprofessional.

I have several Amazon Echos. I changed my wake word to "Computer" when Amazon first added it. Loved the Star Trek tie-in, but I quickly found that at my home we used the word "computer" far, far too often, resulting in the Echo waking up constantly. Random TV shows would do it too. For fun, we would watch it freak out whenever we put on an episode of ST:TNG...

Changed it back to "Alexa."

That's right, Hey Siri is trash talk. They need to rethink this. Rush to market.
