I’ve noticed that whenever I use Siri to play an album (Apple One Premier subscription), it never starts with the first track and doesn’t play anything in order. This is happening on all of my devices using hey Siri. And no matter how many times I tell it to play a particular album, it always starts at the same particular track of that album.

I am on the latest releases of HomePod and iOS 14.2. And it happens whether I’m using my AirPods or not.

Could anyone please confirm this behaviour? Thanks.

I’m on iOS 14.2 and just tested this for a bunch of albums without any issues. Played from the first song every time. No idea what’s going on with your Siri 🤔

Thanks for testing it for me.

Could you please tell me exactly what you say and I will try the exact same phrasing and album on mine?

Thanks again.

This might mean you set the music app on random the previous time you played something.

Unfortunately not. Already checked this. Just tried it on my Mac Mini and it plays in the correct order. So it’s affecting HomePod, iPhone, Apple TV and Mac mini.

Edit: It seems to be very fussy on how you word it. For you guys that it works for would you please tell me exactly how you word it and maybe even give me an example album to try. Thanks

Not sure this will help you any but...I have an Android phone. If I copy and paste my albums into my phone's memory, I have the same issue. It doesn't happen with all albums, but annoyingly some of them do play the songs in random order (but always the SAME random order each time I play them). If on the other hand, I copy my songs to a mini SD card and play from that, they play in correct order.
So, the answer to this MAY lie somewhere in how the albums and songs are transferred to internal memory.

I don't know but I just thought it was ironic that it happened to me the same way. I can play the albums on my computer and they play in correct order. It only happens when the albums are in the phone's memory. To bad you can't try a memory card. I'd be interested to see if it played correctly with one of them.

It’s only when Siri is involved that there is a problem. If I browse for, and play the music is fine.

Just looked on the official Apple forums and a few other people are reporting exact same issue.

Interesting
Just curious...might it make a difference if you say "play such and such ALBUM""

The last one I did that worked well was, "Hey Siri, play Revolver by The Beatles".

Started right from the top with no issues.

What if you say it by saying the title of the first track? Fir instance on Rubber Soul, say "Hey Siri, play Taxman."
Not that this is a real good workaround because you would need to know the first song on every album you own, but I've noticed that with some music players if I play the first track, it then plays the entire album.

No I’ve tried that and many other permutations unfortunately, all with the same result. I’ve spoken with Apple today who have confirmed other exact reports. I’ve sent them some screenshots which will be sent to the devs. I’ve got a phone call scheduled for Wednesday afternoon with, hopefully, an update.

I’ll feedback here when I’ve got some news.

Mine has just started doing this! It’s very annoying, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Hopefully there will be a fix!

It’s good that Apple are aware of it and that they also know other people have the same problem. And it wouldn’t surprise me if they can fix it server-side rather than a new update for iPhones and iPads etc.

I am hitting the same issue and it is driving me crazy. It's only been happening since the HomePod Software Version 14.2 update when invoking Siri and asking to play an album via my Apple Music subscription. It's not shuffling the album, it's simply playing the tracks in the wrong order, and it always seems to start from the same wrong track. It's infuriating.

Sometimes you can get Siri to start the album again and play in the correct order by saying things like "Hey Siri, play this album in the correct order", however this is hit and miss.
They need to fix this bug fast.

Not had this problem yet and can't reproduce it.

But maybe it has something to do with the homepod? I don't have one.

No not specific to the HomePod. As I’ve said above, it happens on all of my devices which run a variant of 14.2 software.

Was having this issue as well, and it was ridiculously frustrating. I've found a workaround working for me (i.e., YMMV) -

1. If I tell Siri on my HomePod to "Play 'Even the Devil Believes' by Stryper", tracks play out of order. Same if I say "Play the album 'Even the Devil Believes'." If I tell her to "Play Stryper's latest album", then the album plays in the proper order.

2. If I tell her, "Play the album 'Hey Sicko' by Noush Skaugen", tracks play out of order. If I tell her to "Play Noush Skaugen's latest album", tracks play in the correct order.

I'm not certain how this will replicate (if at all) with albums earlier in an artist's catalogue.
