just got my first mac, i got a shinny new iMac 24in 2.4 MHz 3GB RAM, i have always used PC's and i am very excited to make the switch, however, i need a few programs which i used on my PC's before that are not compatible with macs, so i would appreciate all the help. I'll list the type of programs i need:

torrent client (something like utorrent)
image editing program (freeware)
video converter
program to get music from friends ipods (something like iDump)
any other cool 3rd party apps

thanks in advance to all.

For torrents you can use Transmission: http://transmission.m0k.org/
For image editing you can use Seashore: http://seashore.sourceforge.net/
or Gimp: http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/
Dvd to mov/mp4 you can use Handbrake: http://handbrake.m0k.org/
Or a more comprehensive but shareware video converter, VisualHub: http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/
Program to *backup* your iPod music, Senuti: http://www.fadingred.org/senuti/

The rest is some of the most commonly downloaded programs:

Adium for Msn web messaging: http://www.adiumx.com/
VLC for playback of most media files: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/download.html
Little snitch for firewall: http://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html
Appzapper for removing applications: http://appzapper.com/
