Apple Music Hi res lossless apple music with ethernet to apple 3

Hi..can anyone test this out with a DAC..my AV receiver does not show the bit/sample rate. I have the ethernet to Apple TV 3...then the digital optical into my receiver. Can you get 24-bit/192kHz on your DAC... You could also airplay to Apple TV 3.

Either way I think output from Apple TV is limited to 16.1/48 (it will upsample a 44.1KHz input to 48KHz)

So you are using Airplay either fully wired or wireless - it doesn’t matter - it is still limited to 16 bit 44.1 kHz SR (which ATV up samples to 48 kHz).

If you want higher resolution then from IOS you will need to use a wired connection from the portable device to the DAC, potentially via a camera connector. The reason I say potentially is because Lighting is not fully USB compliant and some DACs will work and some won’t (just depends how sensitive the DAC is to adherence to the USB standard), but the camera connector takes your lighting output and makes it USB compatible so any DAC with a USB input should work.

The other thing you may notice using Airplay is you often lose the first beat of a song - almost as if Airplay misses its cue to pass the signal and then does so half a second late. With a wired link you don’t get this.

And finally - there seems to be no guaranteed way to prevent Airplay from cutting over from Apple Music to some other media if you are browsing while listening- eg if you a browsing a site and there is a video advert and you scroll too close to it, then suddenly your music stops and the video starts being cast to ATV. You then have to restart your music manually. Very annoying. Again - doesn’t happen when wired.
