I am testing this right now. It's very clear to me that there's an obvious reason why Apple didn't release it yet: it sucks..

Apple's software is to blame. My Sony camera takes fantastic panoramic photos. I am looking forward to Apple improving the software, removing the bugs and allowing panoramic photos :)

My two year old camera (Sony TX-1) has this, its called 'sweep panorama' and it works very very well, would be great if apple put this on their phones too!

That is awesome. I would love to have this on my phone.

My Galaxy S2 has that feature built in... Yet another thing that's old news in the Android world but still hasn't made it into an official "Apple innovation".

well one this is for sure and that is Apple better release this asap or else android will now that they have another thing to copy :p

Afraid you and Apple are both late, Android has been doing this for a while now. Also seems to be even better with ICS and the Galaxy Nexus. Better luck next time;)

I don't where are all the android comments coming from. I don't think this is considered a new feature by the original article. The article is about how hidden the string was and that someone actually managed to find it. This is interesting piece of news for an Apple enthusiast in many ways. It is not supposed to be for a simple product consumer that just cares about the features comparison...

To me this shows that Apple is working on something but doesn't put out anything half-bred. that's why I like them :) because features that they put out, might be late sometimes, but at least they make users actually use them:)

I have a Sony camera with this on as well, works really well, so I can't see why Apple can't do it!

The autofocus messes up the pano every time. You'll have to turn on AE/AF for any satisfactory result.

Here's my room when shot in 360 Panorama. Yeah, big difference. Except this shoots at a lower resolution instead of at the full 5MP resolution.

By 'eck, you only have one pillow?!?

And a non-Apple Mouse?!!

Yeah, but that app makes the panoramas very planterium like. it's not flat. i don't even know how to describe it properly, but it sucks.

Doesn't it make more sense for panoramas to not be flat?

----------

Not in 5.0.1 beta, by the way :(

Also, when did this forum start combining multiple posts into one if nobody comments in between you posting them? 's quite funky (may not be new at all, just it's never happened to me before)!

I am looking forward to this. Until it is enabled (hopefully tomorrow), then I won't know why it was pulled at the last minute. Maybe it was held back to make whatever "security loopholes" 5.1 covers seem small in comparison?

I'm lost as to why you would you say "hopefully tomorrow" for??

the why

I'll give you one good reason the feature isn't enabled: Lawyers.

If you haven't been paying attention, I'll fill you in... There are other products on the market with that same capability. I'm sure the legal team put the kibosh on the feature until they can figure out what, if any, patent encumbrances may impact Apple over the feature.

Your blue notebook looks like it's just floating out in the room! It's like a combination panoramic + 3d :D

I wonder if this will allow for "scrolling wallpaper" at some point in iOS5, where you could set a panorama image as the wallpaper and as you scroll between homescreen pages the wallpaper would scroll as well to view a different part of the image?
