Hide files & folders in snow leopard

In windows i had a option to hide files & folder according to my requirment

How/Where can i get this option in snow leopard

I too am looking for potential ways to hide things, just so that I don't have to keep seeing them all the time.

I looked over the link mentioned that that seemed to only indicate how to show or hide specific files for the OS itself, not personal items.

Does anyone know how to hide specific folders or know of a program that might offer that feature?
