Hide text for icons on desktop

Hi, is it possible to hide the text for the hard drive and folders on the desktop? Thanks.

YOu could just change the name to a space

Will that have a negative effect on the directories they contain?

Ok, it was just because I was thinking of the windows architecture how things are done similar to a url, but I suppose it's different on a mac, changed them to spaces and everything seems fine. Thanks for the help 🙂
