Does anyone know where this option has gone? It used to be in Preferences > Bookmarks, but there is no longer a Bookmarks pane in Safari Preferences. Holding Command and dragging it off doesn't work either.

I wasn't clear enough :)

That worked for the one on the main toolbar, but it won't let me get rid of the one on the bookmarks bar. In earlier versions I've always had to go into Preferences to get rid of that one, but I can't find where the option has moved to now.

if you're referring to the button next to the Reading List icon and in the Bookmarks menu bar I don't think you can remove it

Oh okay. So far I don't see where it can be removed either.

OK, I'll just sit and twiddle my thumbs for a while because I'm sure that someone will have a "defaults write" command for it hiding somewhere :)

Still no way to get rid of this "plus" button, icon in Mavericks, 10.9... strange considering they took it away completely in Yosemite.

I have on system that runs on Mavericks still cos Yosemite causes a lot of "extra" processes to run, WindowServer and Kernel task.. But its a little annoyance that the reading list icon is still there.. someone who have managed to get rid of it?
