Hide update

Why doesn't "hide update" work in the mac app store? There are software updates that I don't need, so it'd be nice if I could "hide" them in order to stop receiving the notifications.

There seems to be several ways: Sys Prefs-App Store has some settings. If you're trying to ignore a big Apple OS banner, just right-click in the banner. In the purchase tab right click the name to hide. Other than that, it's a feature of general annoyance (FOGA).
