Hi all,

I'm the market for a new monitor to be paired with a MBA early 2015. In this regard, the Dell P2715Q is often cited as a good alternative. The native resolution (3840 x 2160) is likely impracticable given the real estate of the panel (27''), but it would probably look great in retina mode. However, I cannot find an authoritative source regarding the possibility of natively enable HiDPI with this monitor.

Does anybody have experience with this monitor with HiDPI enabled? If possible at all, would the experience be smooth enough for day to day usage?

Thanks!

hi There! Oh; you know the Dell monitor is no good; think of it a little more clearly; we all have our off days .

All of the resolution controls that you have on your internal laptop display are also available on any external display. So yes, that monitor will work just fine pixel-doubled or whatever you want to set it as.

I have no idea what the @Left4DeadBoy is saying... the P2715Q is consistently the highest-rated and best-reviewed 4k monitor on the market today.

This is good to hear. Given that I would like to use the screen at the retina-ish resolution of 2560x1440 (as opposed to the native 3840x2160) , my only concern now is to understand whether the continuous upscaling / downscaling required to do so could negatively impact on the responsiveness of the system.
