My guess is the Pro model gets it first then becomes standard on future models. Would love to have this along side oxygen and heart rate to monitor my health

I look forward to enjoying use of this sensor when I'm due for a Watch upgrade in 2024.

Well nothing to upgrade for. Why should I need to know my temperature all the time? Can't remember my last fever. Blood sugar sensor would be more interesting.

Everyone seems to walk right past the issue of lower than "normal" temperature. Which can be every bit as important as higher than "normal" temperatures.

Especially obviously for those with thyroid issues. Hypothyroidism is well-known for resulting in low blood temperature and even just being slightly under-dosed can have an impact on temperature.

While not what we'd really like, a good temperature measurement which can detect lowered as well as raised temperatures would be a welcome addition.
Maybe it will be smart enough to determine your "normal" temp so it can alert you when it is our of range either way by some threshhold

A simple $7 thermometer from Walmart or Target placed under the tongue or armpit can provide better results.

It’s gimmicky at first but yes this new feature will eventually improve…albeit in the slow yearly Apple software improvement fashion.
Yes, but how will that fit in the Apple Watch? It’s kind of long and pointy. 🫣

Hopefully the Mood Sensor will be next.

Starts your favorite playlist when you’re sad. It sends you a thumbs up when you’re feeling GREAT! Shuts down when you’re bitter and complaining 😋
Mood Ring 2.0.

Apple. You gave us silly, fun Memojis. It’s time to bring back the mood ring.

I just did some reading up but seems like the blood oxygen sensor are not that accurate since the AW6, i hope they first focus at enhancing their current tech instead of throwing additional sensors at us that are not nearly as accurate.

Several studies showed the AW6 and 7 Blood Oxygen sensor messurements are not nearly as accurate as finger tip sensors.....
True. I can can get around 5% difference in readings within the same minute sometimes.

Though… when I was sick, I was getting consistent low around 94% which was very interesting. 😯

*edit: interesting. 22 hours ago was at 94 reading. Just tried twice now and got 99 both times. Guess I’m better? 🤷‍♂️

I think I’m just upset that Apple is going to probably introduce this only to their new Pro Watch model.

Considering how Apple aggressively markets the Apple Watch as a health device, making this feature only available (even at launch) on only the (significantly) most expensive model aimed at the (relatively) niche "athletic" market makes little sense to me as the people who are going to buy the Apple Watch Pro are probably not that interested in this feature compared to all the others it is rumored to have.

As such, I expect it to be on all Series 8 models at launch.

This technology has been around for years. I wonder if Apple was just waiting for the Texas Instruments patents to expire…

if your feeling sick, you put a $15 Pulsax on your finger and keep it there like they do at hospitals. This really helped my family during the virus phase. I learned that it can be dangerous to not know whats accurately going on with heart rate, temperature and oxygen in blood. I wouldn't trust the watch to warn me. its literally an indicator of, "go to hospital now or you'll collapse randomly soon"

When or if they add accurate glucose monitoring... that will be the game changing feature....they are several years from that.... I suspect they thought temperature was important because of Covid....

Yeah, I always walk around with a Walmart thermometer attached to my wrist.

there is a way to take your temperature that's not so visible...you'd be walking around like Frankenstein but at least you'd get consistent readings.

Patent application filed in 2020 and published Jan 2022. I don't believe this as the device in the Series 8 for a second. Also such a device would not be accurate enough. Much more likely it's the Rockley sensor I think.

My guess is the temperature sensor will be for the regular 8 as well.

Otherwise there would be very little reason to buy an 8 for those with an AW 4, 5,6, or 7.

yeah putting it in a "pro" model makes no sense whatsoever.

Earlier rumors said that the sensor wouldn't reveal your actual temperature, but rather alert you if it's higher or lower than "normal." Initially, this seemed like a cop-out but in hindsight, that's more useful than knowing it down to the 1/10 of a degree.

I could see an alert along the lines of "YOUR BODY TEMP HAS BEEN HIGHER THAN NORMAL FOR THE LAST 24 HOURS. IF YOU FEEL UNWELL, CONSULT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL."

Let’s see whether it actually makes it into the S8… but I am still waiting for compelling features to upgrade from my S7, body temp is not enough for me

the watch has never really been a device that needs to be upgraded every year.
