Thought only the iPhone 5 with Verizon was having this problem, but after going through 4gb data in one week, I called AT&T. Tech support said it is a "known issue" and they are waiting for Apple to release a software update.

In the meantime they suggested manually turning off cellular data when on a wifi network. They then gave me, without much prompting, a $50 bill credit.

Hope Apple will fix this soon.

True.. the OP should have asked the AT&T tech support if they would be releasing a carrier update to address this issue

"carrier"

Yes, good point, the AT&T tech did seem so sure that Apple would post on their website and that I should check with Apple if it didn't update automatically.

i have the cheapest internet at 10mbps. i was doing a speed test on my iphone 5 yesterday and it went up to 20. after i shut the cellular off it went back to the 10mbps range again

i think AT&T iphones are having the same issue
