There won't be a party. Just a press release. I'm not sure if they would do it on the exact same day or not.

I think it depends on what is upgraded. If it's just an Ivy Bridge w/USB 3 (i.e like the MBA and non-retina MBP), then I agree with no event. However, if it's a more substantial upgrade (i.e. Thinner redesign, retina, etc.), then I think there would be some sort of event.

Sometime in the next monthish iMacs will:
get Ivy
get USB 3
get a nivida

and thats it

I agree that this is probably the most likely upgrade for 2012. However, what else is there after that? Of the rumors I have heard pretty much only thing left out was redesign (possibly thinner/lighter) and retina. Either way, I'm happy with my launch day 2011 27" iMac, and am only keeping an eye out "in case" something more drastic happens.

Maybe a less reflective display - not retina, just less glare. And probably better SSD options, more base RAM.
