Hi,

I have a MacPro 4,1 flashed to a 5,1 running High Sierra, and I swapped in a mac version of the Radeon 4870 512M, that is known good.

Strangely this card works but does't seem to have accelerated drivers or 3D?

This is surprising to me as it has been plug and play in my MacPr 3,1 for many OS iterations.

Any ideas on why this might not work or be supported?

Thanks in advance.

I don’t really know, but I wonder if the release of METAL2 might have something to do with it.

I have a 4870 on hand, may test it later (my computer is doing some encoding, can't shutdown now).

But if it's METAL 2 related, than GT120 should also be affected. But my GT120 work very well in 10.13.4 without issue.

It was an ID 10 T error. I am so old school, I forgot to connect the power connectors to the card from the Motherboard. Interestingly the video card still works, but disables all of the heavy lifting, acceleration and 3d.

Plug it in and Viola! Supported.
