It's been awhile since I checked the available full installers for High Sierra. Haven't seen this 17G66 build version before. Has anyone used the 17G66 installer for High Sierra 10.13.6 on MP5,1's? Cannot find documented info on this forum or any Wiki posts.

17G2208 believe was just for 2018 MacBook Pro's
17G65 was widely installed by many and well documented

17G5019 is latest available update for most MP5,1's

All packages in the 17G66 installer are dated December 14, 2018.

There’s no documentation anywhere about 17G66, but it’s the build you’ll get if you download a new copy of the High Sierra installer. It doesn’t contain any security fixes and uses the same kernel as 17G65.

So do you have a clue what’s different or special as compared to the older version?

I'm being exclusively fed the smaller ~22mb installers for High Sierra and Mojave whenever downloading directly from App Store via MBP11,3 or MP5,1. This was not always the case and received full installers via App Store for previous versions in the past. Deleting the "Install macOS High Sierra.app" or "Install macOS Mojave.app" does not result in or trigger a full installer download on additional attempts for either.

The full installers appear to be only accessible via the script at this time. I know prior reports that Apple was regionally testing the smaller installer in the past. Guess they decided to fully execute that plan?

Still would like to know if there is any known or reported differences or changes from 17G65 > 17G66, or if 17G66 is a specific targeted OS build for a specific machine. (Given the build number, assume that is not the case.)

Just a note for those who may come across this thread later: NVIDIA Web Drivers are only available for High Sierra 10.13.6 17G65 and supplemental updates 17G3025, 17G4015, and 17G5019. There are no known or available drivers specifically for 17G66 at this time. If you are downloading the full installer for "just in case" purposes with NVIDIA GPU, at least download and have a copy of 17G65 as well.

Have you tried to install it (installer file in the Application/ folder) with the terminal code "
    /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/startosinstall --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app --agreetolicense --converttoapfs NO --nointeraction
    "
No can do, but the older version works without converting to APFS.
Apple's Power Harassment version # "pick any number a lot higher than 1"?

I also noticed that the firmware upgrade to the latest HS version worked with this new version of HS but not with the older version, on my 2009 4,1 cMP with the firmware update to 5,1. (This may not be universal)
Saving both versions on an external disk, not connected, is Recommended

No, I have no need for High Sierra. I was just curious if anyone knew what changed.

    :D
That "Have you tried to install it" was in the general sense, to illustrate the difference between the 2 versions. Sorry for the confusion, I wasn't actually asking you if you installed it. There are obviously some differences in the 2 versions of the installers. I ran into the first difference I found when I tried to use that code with the latter version, and it ignored the "--converttoapfs NO" flag. Had to reformat that SSD and use the older version of the installer to get 10.3.6 installed without converting to APFS, which I suspect is not ready for prime time yet (personal opinion only).:D

I believe that Web Driver 387.10.10.15.15.108 will work with that build, as it has with every build of HS that has preceded it. I have nothing to back that statement up, except my experience with that driver on all builds of HS since the first release.

Believe the same, but have not tested. I’m still on this driver since release and works great.

Authentic MP5,1 or hacked or hackintosh? Believe that is a MacBookPro specific build/update.

17G6009 is a beta of an upcoming security update. 17G5019 is the latest released security update.

Hmm... I keep getting these Beta Security updates, 3 or 4 of them thus far. I wonder, isn't that the case for the rest of you?
No other 17G6009'ers out there? The App Store is showing "no updates" for me right now.

That's odd, I've had 2 in the last 30 days, and another before that...

It looks like you keep installing the same security update over & over.

    Exactly. I'm puzzled by this.

Apple releases multiple versions of the Security Updates if your Mac Pro is set to the Seed channel, it’s normal.

Every week a new version, with little improvements over the one released in past week, is re-released and installed, this is done repeatedly until the final release is finally installed.

Good to know, thanks Alex. I just turned off "show beta updates" in App Store.
