Hello,

Guess I'll bite the bullet very soon, and upgrade my iMAC to High Sierra.

Question: Will High Sierra, now, run any of the multitude of iOS APPS that my iPhone
runs, or is this something for the future ?

Thanks,
Bob

You may find Mac versions of your iOS apps
But macOS (including High Sierra) will not run iOS apps natively

There are rumors that this capability may come eventually

This is incorrect. The rumour is that Apple will make frameworks shared between the platforms.

To clarify: this only means that it would be less difficult for a developer to port an app over from iOS to macOS — it does not mean that you will be able to run iOS apps on macOS.
