Just tossing my hat in this ring... My business is dependent on Pages '09 4.3 and cannot be upgraded to a newer version. I have tried to use Mojave, but Pages, at least what I depend on, is less stable on Mojave. Consequently I'm stuck on High Sierra, apparently forever. Sure, Pages crashes sometimes, but I'm used to it by now and can generally avoid file corruption. For me, HS is clean, productive and stable. My primary computer is an iMac Pro 3 GHz Xeon - a fabulous machine - which handles High Sierra beautifully. If I could find a faster processor, I might switch, but overall I'm happy.
At that point, why not run Pages in a VM? I feel like you're not taking advantage of that Monster iMac.

I have to use a similar machine at work with Parallels because I absolutely have to be able to run older versions of software. While the iMac is running Sonoma, Parallels is running High Sierra and it's great to have the capability of both at the same time. Of course you can run Parallels apps without the whole window interface. I forget what it's called but it makes it look like the App (Pages) is running right on your native desktop.

I'm slowly working round to upgrading to HS from Mavericks, and that's as far as this 2011 iMac will go unless I go down the OCLP route. I've been testing which apps will run by using a Parallels HS VM, and Pages 4 - which runs fine in Mavericks though I rarely use it - does not run in HS. I had to download Pages 7 from the Internet Archive. How did you get Pages 4 to run in HS??.

I think that's called Coherence Mode?

I'm running a HS VM on an iMac where the host is Mavericks!.

I simply installed iWork'09 Pages 4.3 (1048) with no problems. I can't point you to a download, but I'm sure it's still out there. If I remember correctly, after installing the iWork'09 I had to install an update to Pages 4.3.

I had one helluva job finding a copy of Pages 4.3, but I did and it runs fine in Mavericks. So I copied the app to my High Sierra VM and it reported a dyld problem, "may not be compatible with this version Mac OS". Not quite sure how you got it to run? So I'm using Pages 7 there, which is very different but competent in its own way.

I wish I could be more help, but I don't know what to suggest. It's possible that if you just copied the app from Mavericks, rather than installing it on High Sierra, that might cause problems -- I didn't try that. I installed iWork'09 with Pages 4.3, build 1048, on High Sierra with no errors of any kind. I use it every day, constantly. I also installed it on Mojave (10.14.6) with no errors, and it works properly. But the interface to the OS's graphical interface is awkward sometimes, and it seems a little less stable overall, so I don't use it as often.

Unfortunately I only have the iWork '09 apps in Mavericks, not the original install CD. I do have the iWork '09.3 update dmg, but that's no good unless I can first install iWork '09 in High Sierra.
Oh well, it doesn't matter too much as I can use Pages 7 when I need to, which isn't often (I make do with Bean usually).

There is, or at least was, a trick to install iWork 9.3 on an old system. First you install the iWork 9 Trial dmg, open and close each app, then you can install the iWork 9.3 update. This worked about a year ago, so it probably still does. Here's the link for the trial version:

Then you should be able to install your 9.3 update dmg.

Unfortunately your link doesn't work.
Possibly because it's an http (as opposed to https) address. Try opening a terminal and using curl:
Code:
curl http://appldnld.apple.com/iWork/Trial/2Z693-6764.01022009.awq23/iWork09Trial.dmg --output iWork09Trial.dmg
Worked for me on Mojave.

I've managed to do that, using Grumpus's method. But there is still a problem: though Pages 4.3 now opens fine in High Sierra, updating the trial has left it as a trial, i.e. I've only got 30 days to use it.

Yet, weirdly, I also have Pages 4.3 running in the Mavericks host, and I'm NOT told it's trial version! Does this mean if I upgrade my host from Mavericks to High Sierra, iWork 09 will just run as it does now in Mavericks?

I am running a Mid-2010 MacBook Pro on High Sierra OSX in 2025. I'm finding that it's good for things like Google Docs, Garageband and iTunes and I'm also interested to see what kind of design applications will still run/work on Mac High Sierra. Anyone recommend any good software to try out?

One of the pinned topics in this forum is a pretty comprehensive list of apps that work / don’t work in High Sierra. You should find something in that list that would suit you? (Not knowing what kind of design you want.)
