Some background…….I tried Yosemite and El Cap a couple of years ago and literally hated the experience, everything about it was wrong, so much so that I never even gave any consideration to Sierra. I went back very happily to my Mavericks installation and there I have stayed, until now.

I installed the Public Beta 6 last weekend on a separate partition on my MBP (see my sig). So far, all I have to say is what a great and pleasurable experience this has been. Everything for me has been rock solid, I have not had any crashes. I can see quite clearly that there are a huge amount of processes running in memory (as compared to Mavs), but the system is handling everything very well and usage has not gone past 5 GB. The interface is quick and responsive and Safari is performing very well.

I am still working on installing all of the software that I like to use. But, so far none of the major packages (Adobe CS6, MS-Office, Lightroom) have been an issue. Some of the minor apps have needed some searches for a workaround, or an alternative that does the same thing.

Of course this is early days testing for me, but so far I am liking what I see.

Obviously everyone’s needs are different when it comes to the use of their own Mac. But, I entered into this expecting the worst and instead I have been very pleasantly surprised, so much so that I felt I needed to post this.

By the way, I got a notice to install the next update this week to Public Beta 7 and instead it installed Developer Beta 8, not quite sure why. Everything is still really solid.

I have had the same experience, thanks for sharing. Rock solid for me. In terms of the versions, the last few releases have been mislabeled which seems to be sloppy for Apple. Go ahead and install it.

Separately, I HATE THOSE STICKIES. They are too damn long, annoying to follow and impossible to find something in. The traffic isn't that great here that we have to move or merge threads to wastelands. Just my opinion! Rant off.

OP: I'm curious why you didn't wait until High Sierra is released to public?

Nice that High Sierra is working for you but I'm not exactly impressed given that 1. Preview is buggy (crashes while viewing PDF, services are unreliable), 2. Disk Utility isn't mature (crashed while converting, couldn't repair APFS formatted SSD), 3. APFS needs more work (Conversion of external SSD didn't work and after formatting & using for a week it lost my test files) and 4. Console isn't working any better than in Sierra.

In my opinion High Sierra isn't ready for release.

There are a couple of reasons why I chose this time to install and test High Sierra.

1. I thought the Public Beta would be reasonably solid by this point and for me that is true.

2. I support a few friends and their Mac’s and I wanted to get as much exposure as possible to this version to ensure that I can answer all of their questions should we/they decide to upgrade.

It is kind of funny that when I tested Yosemite a few years ago, everyone was saying how well it worked and how much they liked it. But, for me at the time the reverse was true. I also used words at the time that you suggest in your post, namely “half-baked” and “not ready for prime time”. I guess the shoe is on the other foot this time. I am sorry that you are having issues, but for me it is so far rock solid.
